What??? Is it Pollards fault he hired the best man for the job at the time? He was lied to by Chizik and there is no way he could have stoped this.

Best man for the job? Hardly. We need a head coach with experience and a staff with at least some midwest ties. We need a guy who is ok being a head coach at a small school and is not a prima dona. Chizik was hardly the best man for the job then, and obviously he turned out to be the worst man for the job. Bad PR, mediocre recruiting, poor staff, poor leader himself and lastly, didn't like being the coach at ISU after only 2 years.

How about we forget the opinions and judge Pollard on his results?

Under Bruce Vandevelde's 5 year tenure we went to 4 bowl games and 3 post-season basketball tournaments.

Under Jamie Pollard's 3+ year tenure we have gone to no bowl games, no basketball tournaments, and the two major revenue sports programs have both gotten much worse. The only things that have gone up under Pollard's tenure are ticket prices and donations.

Jamie has sold us on the fact that championships cost money. He's gotten us to pay ticket prices and donations that are the highest in our history and among the highest in the Big XII. And he's delivered crap. I've read and heard enough opinions and excuses, it's time for Jamie to deliver.
He's also delivered a Facilities Master Plan that people seem so quick to discount. He's also got a dang fine wrestling coach and a dang fine volleyball coach. Yes football and basketball aren't going as well as he'd like, but how much of this is his fault? Little. The Chizik debacle isn't period and the jury is still out on McDermott.

Thanks MonteBurns.

Let's not forget the cheesy marketing as well. Gold coins for coaches who have never coached a game before as a head coach? come on. No more copy cat marketing from other schools. No 4th quarter jump around ideas. no billboards in eastern iowa. no running through an inflatable helmet with fire extinguisher smoke.

Bruce's AD success was based on Gene Smith's hires, nothing more. To give him credit for the success is a joke. Instead of trying to raise money, he turned us into a bottom feeder when he cut baseball and didn't bother trying to build the program after the bowl games and NCAA.

He was the one of the top asst coachs in the country. He was a hire that many didnt think ISU could make. Some compaired him to Bob Stoops. He was a good hire at the time.

Look at it this way.. with the way he burned bridges here, and how little time they'll give him in Auburn, this last week probably just ended his career.

He better enjoy the next 2 years, because that could be all he's got left as HC

Yep, he better make some wise investments - like buy GM stock when its low.

This sounds like a Dan DESCRIPTION.

You forgot this :jimlad:

BDV went around the business the wrong way. Instead of trying to raise more money he just spent less. He was trying to save ISU into prosperity. He had very poor PR.

That is exactly right. I think it played a part in the LE firing debacle. I think he tried to save some money on the salary and that was part of the reason why he ended up going with Wayne.

JP may fail. That doesn't make me nostalgic for the BVD or Dan McCarney eras.

So does anyone have any information about the Pollard meeting with the players? It was supposed to happen at 6 correct???

Just on a side note... Pollard wasn't behind that, that was a local bank. They also did one of McDermot this year... though that may have been to save face for last year

A coach can prove his worth in wins in a few seasons... an AD cannot. An AD controls who he hires... all which have been amazing at the time. 99% loved him for his chizik hire when he made it. The rest of his job is to get the things those coaches need to bring in great recruits and he's gotten more for us than anybody could have imagined.

Pollard had done great and he's working his *** off for ISU right now. And I'm basing my judgements off of what he CAN control. He's been here for three years. I have no beef with BVD... but I don't attribute our bowl games and basketball championships to him. I give it to the players and the coaches. And last I knew McCarney wasn't even hired by him.

It seems like some Cyclone 'Fans' enjoy when bad things happen to us because they can speak up and act like they know what they're talking about.

And Bruce did a great job having success with the financial disaster he inherited from Smith.
