If you were were Chizik and Auburn came knocking at your door and asked you to be their head coach what would you have done? Try to take off the Cyclone colored glasses before you answer.

[edit] Yes, there are a lot of threads, but none w/ a poll. Vote here, vent there.

I would start 20 threads about it per hour. Sure there are already plenty of threads, but my thought deserves its own thread so everyone will make sure to see it, dammit!

I wouldn't take the job. With Saban at Alabama, you are screwed. No matter how well you do, that guy is going to do better. It's like Ricky Bobby, that guy wakes up &(^%*#@# excellence. No matter your acheivements, his will top yours. Not to mention, he has quite a head start.

Secondly, he made a commitment to ISU. We gave him his first head coaching opportunity. I expected him to leave, but I at least expected him to right the ship first. He didn't.

I agree. There's a reason why nobody wants the Auburn job and they are desperate enough to give it to Chizik. Gene was better off trying to win here and exploring other jobs in the future. This Auburn job is currently a death trap and if Gene is still the coach there in 4 years I'd be shocked.

Good luck beating Saban out for recruits numbnuts. The guy looked in over his head in the Big 12 NORTH at times. Good luck.

I knew ISU was just a stepping stone for Chizik, but I thought that when he left the program would be better then it is now. I assumed that he would leave after taking us to a couple of bowl games, not 5 wins in 2 seasons.

if i had no conscience and knew I could set myself up for retirement in 4 years if I stunk, then if the money was right I would go to auburn.

The biggest problem with the Auburn job is that the AD is only marginally in charge. They have a booster with questionable ethics who also sits on the Board of Trustees who meddles and micromanages the athletic department even down to the coaching staffs:

ESPN - A Tiger of a trustee - College Football

Taking the Auburn job is a no brainer. ISU is a bottom feeder with no money and flashes of mediocrity and Auburn is a top feeder with plenty of money and flashes of brilliance.

So because Alabama has a good coach you would back off from the challenge? Wow...

I don't blame him one second. A job offer from one of the top programs in the country doesn't come around very often, if ever for some people, if you have the opportunity to take your game to the highest level of the sport you take it.
