The following is a press release courtesy of Iowa State Athletic Communications.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head men’s basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger has announced his complete support staff.

Otzelberger has named Nate Schmidt as the Cyclones’ recruiting and player development coordinator, Pete Link as the head strength and conditioning coordinator and Blake Wetherington as the recruiting and scouting coordinator. Julie Voss also returns for her 44th year as the administrative specialist for men’s basketball.

Otzelberger previously announced he was retaining director of basketball operations Micah Byars.

Nate Schmidt returns to Iowa State where he spent three seasons under Fred Hoiberg and Steve Prohm as a graduate assistant and...

After watching Baylor's run and their continued physical dominance I wonder if re-hiring a S&C that's overseen women's basketball training as well as our men from 2016-2020 - an era of undeniably poor physical development in the program - is a good route to go with the hire.

The article states Link assisted in the development of Haliburton, Monte, Naz, Deonte, Matt Thomas, Marial Shayok and Talen Horton-Tucker. Haliburton was injured, Horton-Tucker looked the same as a freshman as he did in high school, and Shayok, Monte, Thomas, Naz and Deonte predominantly developed under prior staffs. Not exactly a feather in Link's cap.

As we've seen in the football program it absolutely matters who you put in your strength and conditioning role. I don't see anything in Link's history to indicate that he's a qualified fit for a staff that's trying to move away from the era that Link oversaw a large portion of.

Yeah Prohm fired Pete Link and brought in his own guy - then Otzelberger hired him at UNLV. Not the most charismatic guy either.
And hopefully someone has told Nate Schmidt that wearing his Michigan Wolverines gear everywhere around Ames is a "bad look."

Anyone have any insight into Link? My view has been that our basketball strength and conditioning in the past has needed an "Andrews" . Curious what people think of Link?

T!H!IS! This is one area where you invest more time and $$$ ensuring you get the right guy since the results from the weight room are compounded (for better or worse) in performance on the court. And IMO we have been been grossly underperforming in this area.

Wondering if Schmidt is familiar with Tyon Grant-Foster?

Based on his LinkedIn profile he was an assistant at Indian Hills CC from Oct 2017 - May of 2019 so yes he should be intimately familiar w him (TGH was there from Aug 2018-May 2020). Hopefully has a good relationship and can bring him onboard... would be a great get!

KU was subpar from their usual this year and did Foster play much? Have no idea of his game, but one would think if he was going to help us, he would have helped KU at least 'a little' ?

His stats are nothing to write home about, but he was sitting behind some guys that ate minutes. Who knows what a change of scenery could do? Clearly he looked good enough for ISU and KU to go after.

Let's hear it for Julie! She has been a mainstay at the program for longer than many Cyclone fans have been alive and she is what makes that program tick from day to day.

Absolutely. Anyone who has passed through the doors of the basketball offices in the past almost 1/2 a century, has been greeted by Julie. She really is what keeps the whole operation in line and is a huge asset to the program as a whole. Kudos to Julie!

Wow if true, that is ridiculous. Almost worse than an ISU student wearing around Hawkeye gear.

She is amazing.
I would have thought that her position was an AD position, not something picked by the head coach.
