Luka

The more I think about it, the weirder it is. I mean, I could see dinner with Luka (even if it is still a bit weird), but a movie??? I mean, this will most likely be won by some 40-50 year old dude. What are they going to go watch? The new Godzilla vs. Kong? Voyagers? Raya and the Last Dragon? Do they sit right next to each other? Sharing the same popcorn bucket?

So much cringe...
probably bathroom stall "Karen"

Maybe Frank's trying to pull a reverse NBA star baby momma hussle? Putting this out there to find a young woman with enough disposable income to waste on something so ridiculous and try to get Luka to impregnate her after a dinner and a movie. Then when Luka's European career fizzles out he can live off the child support

I'm curious who it's aimed at. The type of activities that are being offered are Joe 6pack fan type of things. Movie night?

But if it's designed to make money, Joe 6 pack isn't going to be able to afford it, otherwise it's kind of a waste of Luka's time. He's not going to do this for a $200 bid. So we're looking at a wealthy booster, maybe? Someone with significant means spending a couple thousand (or more) for a playdate? That gets really cringe-y really fast.

Yeah, I would've expected this to include "all proceeds to benefit X, Y, Z charity." But it really does come off as just a simple money grab. And if you're already a wealthy and influential donor at UI, I'm sure you have plenty of access to the stars of the athletics department anyway. Strange, indeed.

A non-fungible token is a unit of data on a digital ledger called a blockchain, where each NFT can represent a unique digital item, and thus they are not interchangeable. NFTs can represent digital files such as art, audio, videos, items in video games and other forms of creative work.

Hmmm....now explain it like I'm 3.

He said a portion of the proceeds going to the U of Iowa children's hospital. Probably going to send a $10 check to the hospital and bank the rest.

comparing it to sports cards is the easiest imo. Or at least the whole craze around it.

Say: Tyrese Haliburton has a highlight clip of him crossing over a defender and hitting a step back 3 for an and-1. That clip is on the block-chain, and is the only one. That is the NFT. If you purchase it, you are the legal owner of that highlight clip, and can up-sell it or keep it and hope it continues to rise in value, or just brag that you own it.

PS: I think it's dumb, cuz ESPN can just use the clip anyways at any time so it's not like you are the true sole owner of the ability to use or see it. IMO It's just a way for people to feel cool or try to make money.

Could they at least arrange for the dinner and movie to be with some UI coed. Or some cougar hawk fan?

What are some realistic guesses on how much this could go for? Loads of people would be able to go for it if it was under 10k, but by the time you start getting to 50-100k, the people who could afford that would have the means to meet Garza in a less cringy way.

Honest question...what is a GOOD winning big on this? I really have no idea. Will someone pay like $10k for this stupid sh!t?

Furthermore, why go on a national outlet like CNBC, and not something more statewide? In other words, if you're trying to reach out to Hawkeye fans to bid on this, you don't need to go to CNBC. Does Frank think Luka is such a national brand name that some casual fan who may not even be a Hawkeye fan might be interested in bidding on this?

I'd be surprised if it went for more then a couple K. He's done at Iowa, so really any booster would be more of a nastalgia thing more than a booster throwing money at a player. And that has a real stalker feel to it.

If anything, he'd do better by auctioning off him hosting your NBA fantasy draft at BWW's or something. That would seem to fit the demographics of the people that would bid for something like this than a movie.

Maybe someone at CNBC was happy that Frank didn't snitch when the cops came and this was them paying that back?

Maybe Timme is in need of a movie date after last night

Something tells me once someone is the top bidder, or anyone makes a significant bid, it won't be the last time they hear from Frank Garza. Or maybe my cynicism for the day is running high.

Who would you be greeted by for dinner? This Garza....
