The Fran fade

I can’t figure out why Kentucky would have any interest in Frederick. Or does this mean just the state in general he’s going back to? I’m not trying to knock him- there’s probably <1% of transfers they’d be interested in to begin with.

Looks like most of them were hoping for Garza:D

It hasn't been a secret that most players hate playing for Fran. I could very easily see that many decided to come back this year knowing they would have a good chance at being Top 20. But those same players that had thought of transferring before likely see there isn't anything worth staying for with Garza gone next year. I could see them crashing back to reality next year.

For our local TV Hawk lovers Murph, Andy, Sears, and Beau:

Of course they did. Never have understood the love for those guys here

Well when you watch your son commit a turnover, get all red in the face and yell **** on national TV......

Jess has learned over the years that his media gigs will be short lived if he doesn't tone down his hok fandom. I know Jess, and to say he has always been complimentary of ISU could not be further from the truth.

I'm sure what he says privately is very different from what he says in the media, which is fine.

Garza reminds me a bit of Marc Gasol. Not saying he is as good or ever will be, but that's a guy that isn't overly athletic, but can shoot it and does most things well. Defending athletic posts will be a huge limiter, though, unless lots of progress is made there.

Marc Gasol was a defensive player of the year and an elite passing big man. Neither of which Garza is...

Id be interested in what Garza’s Shot blocking stats look like. Can’t be great. If he had one more elite aspect to his game like Shot blocking or passing he would be good to go but basically his skill set is bodying/positioning for layups and an acceptable collegiate 3pt shot.

A big part of it is 4 years in an era where very few All Americans even play 3 years. Here's another way to look at it:

A year one: 14.9 pts, 47%fg, 6.7 rebounds, .6 assists, 1.1 steals, .9 blocks
A year two: 18 pts, 45%fg, 7.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals, .8 blocks
A year three: 22.8 pts, 58%fg, 7.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, .8 steals, 1.1 blocks
---Goes top 5 NBA

B year one: 12.1 pts, 56%fg, 6.4 rebounds, 1,1 assists, .3 steals, 1.0 blocks
B year two: 13.1 pts, 53%fg, 4.5 rebounds, .9 assists, .3 steals, .5 blocks
B year three: 23.9 pts, 54%fg, 9.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, .8 steals, .1.8 blocks
---comes back for 4th year because of quirky skill set where no other players of this era with that production do

Does playing four years matter? Yes. Does that make him "the greatest player by far to ever step foot on a court in this state? No. It's really clear that his year by year production was not any more impressive than Fizer's, ton of bold there for Fizer and most where he didn't lead are very close.

Also need to note that Fizer's teams were slow paced teams. Fizer's points per ISU posession probably absolutely destroy Luka's points per Iowa possession. I'm guessing Luka's teams all averaged more points per game than Fizer's last team that finished ranked #3.

Fizer would eat Garza's lunch. Those two aren't even comparable. I'd take Tinsley, Grayer, Hoiberg, Ejim, Niang and Morris over Garza as well. All better all around players.
