Random Thoughts 15: Crystal Clear 2021 Edition

3 summers ago I spent a few weeks doing research at the U of I campus learning how to purify a protein for a project I now run here in Cedar Rapids.
The parking options are limited and expensive. Trying to find a good place to park that is free and within easy walking distance was quite the process.

Our parking is being paid for, so that's nice.

We switched on Google Maps to finish navigating near campus, and it was like driving through a time machine. It freaked out and did the stuff GPS was notorious for decades ago, like "turn left now" when there wasn't a road, "turn left and right" came out once, and all that.

We were set to be a few minutes early, ended up running late. The Center that Z and I are visiting called and bailed us out. Maybe 3-5 separate times, we were right at the edge of our answer and missed it.

Speaking of GPS. I am thinking of driving outside the metro for the first time in over a year. Maybe buzz up north an hour to Shelbourne Wildlife Refuge. Never been there, was thinking "Do I plug in my old Garmin or use the Google" while totally forgetting the damn car has GPS. Been a while.

GO! You will feel so much better in a many ways. And remember, "Pics or it didn't happen."

Went walkabout yesterday and spied so much "nothing" for birds that I took a picture of a mallard just to check to see if camera would still work. That's bad because mallards and Canadian geese are like the English sparrows of waterfowl.

Haven't seen as many different species around here the past week either, although I noticed the goldfinches are slowly returning to their bright color.

@SCyclone when it comes to LVP, quality is HUGE. We have higher end stuff and going through houses (it is popular now) Our two year old stuff looks quite a bit nicer than some brand new stuff. We put ours on top of vinyl already down, with a pad between, and it worked fabulous.

how many garden boxes does one need? More than we plan to do, I bet. How many projects are too many with an impending baby and increasingly rotund worker bee who probably shouldn't dig out trees or put in much outside work before much longer.......

Do husbands nest too? How did the simple idea of "let's till an extra bit of space onto the existing garden area" become a bunch of raised beds in their own space with fencing and gravel o_O

But he's also a habitual procrastinator so I have doubts of this happening in a reasonable time frame

You sound like MrsWx. She tried to pull the whole "I have been asking you to do this." thing the other day. No you asked me once two months ago that does not=multiple asks.

I've been looking, seems like Shaw is the gold standard for LVP. Thanks for the info.

Have to look what we have. One warning is that if this is going where carpet is, you wil need to subfloor it like regular vinyl. One of the reasons we are doing carpet is also cost. The carpeted area would need to be subfloored and we are doing 3x the space in carpet as LVP for the same price. Our stuff 2 years ago was around $9 per square foot installed, the new area (With same exact stuff was going to be $13 per sq foot).

Case in point. He mentioned needing to fix his bike a month ago. I said should do it now before it gets warm. Crickets. Three weeks ago said he would take it in on his day off. Didn't. Last week he was off again and didn't do it again. I brought it up last night and he said he'd do it today. 3pm and now he says Monday. Supposed to be 60 this weekend.

And I wouldn't really care except for the fact that we have a bike trailer that the toddler loves riding in and would like to start doing....... and give me free time for yard work or whatever I want to do. Prep for painting. I hyped it up last night and LM was saying "daddy you ride bike and I ride in trailer????" and DH was all "way to go, now he'll be disappointed if I can't get it done tomorrow" ummm it's called motivation.

When our kids were younger, I checked and found out that bike seats and trailers both did fit on women’s bikes as easily as men’s............
