Les Miles Done For?

That was quick for him. Long was hired in 2018 as well. He must have known about the allegations while Miles was a LSU and therefore hid them from the University.

Miles and Long heading out the front door is just another media distraction from more Adidas bags being funneled through the back door.

Why not let Self be the next combo HC/AD?

Dam, I was really hoping Long would have the chance to hire the next KU FB Coach. With a track record of hiring Bobby Petrino, Bret Bielema and, Les Miles I really hoped he could build on that list at KU.

I don’t think Long is toast yet.

A source told the Journal-World that KU named Kurt Watson, a KU alum and prominent donor, its interim athletic director during a meeting with various coaches and athletic department staffers. LJW

Imagine the first task at your brand new job was to find a football coach in March/April with the ability to make Kansas competitive.

And the second to defend your MBB program being charged with five level-one recruiting allegations. Ku Athletics is so bad presently that even I can find empathy with their situation.

The donors were upset with Jeff Long BEFORE the LSU-Les Miles report came out, particularly Dana Anderson. The press conference yesterday was considered a nail in the coffin. Self supposedly wasn't a Long fan either.

KU athletic director has a Bruce Van Develde feel to him.

mid I was him I would hire Dowling high school coach at like 200k a year and let everyone know you are putting money toward the basketball program until someone starts winning in football. I’m willing to bet KU fans would be actually happy about that

Is there another job in America that appears to breed more incompetence than an Athletic Director? Maybe US Senator?

Just seems like these guys are screwing up left and right.

Putting a "prominent donor" in charge, even temporarily, is mind-bottling.

Yeah, I don't think that can last for very long. It's interesting that none of the associate AD's with experience at KU got the interim job.

The prominent donors were probably mad that Long couldn't keep the FBI from snooping around the bball program.
So if an AD's responsibility is to keep the FBI away......have fun with that hire.

I want KU to fail at everything all the time so this is great news...

"Hey, we just sh*t-canned our AD, should we install the assistant AD to that spot since they know the day to day operations and can assist in the search for a new AD and head football coach? Naw, remember that rich donor, Kurt Schmukatelli? He said he wants to sit at the head of the AD conference table and take a ride in the university jet so we're gonna let HIM be the AD!"

What a bunch of red and blue clowns. Lolz.

Letting big dollar donors with no experience run the show unchecked is a great plan. They should keep doing that.

I don't see them making a hire this spring.

From the program's perspective, bringing in a new coach and staff after spring practice is a textbook example of setting up to fail. This team was going to be lucky to get 3 wins next year, but now? Their best bet for 2021 is as much continuity as possible, and that's with either the OC or DC as interim coach for the year.

From a coach's perspective, it seems most places you're lucky to get five years to start turning things around. KU has been both horrible and quick with the trigger. Three of their past 4 coaches got less than 3 years, and 2 of the last 5 have been let go for off the field reasons. If you're only going to get a couple of years to try to turn this thing around, why would you burn one with a year where you have a super short offseason to implement your system with a roster you have zero control over?

He knows that we are all laughing at his ridiculously optimistic takes that Miles would have KU back to a bowl in 2019 and even that Miles was good for 2-3 more wins a year over Beaty in year 2.
Part of being a fan is being hopeful and optimistic. I assume that no matter who the next ISU basketball coach is that there will be fans who are optimistic that the team will improve and get to the ncaa tourney as soon as possible. It's not ridiculous, it's normal.

Overall, KU is in a better place now than before Miles was hired. They are finally at a full scholarship load after previous coaches devastated the roster.
