Iowa Football Recruiting

Seriously, the only people that think the B1G is a good football conference is Big 10 fans. Look, I am an ISU fan... do I think the Big 12 is the best in football? No.

You should try this (I have): The next time you travel to a different part of the country and perhaps get into a conversation with a local... ask them their opinion of B1G conference. You will hear the word "Overrated" A LOT.

The best football conference can be debated annually, but there is no mistaking the unearned hype the B1G gets. tOSU is legit, no denying that. The rest of the conference just does not stack up to the attention they get.

Travel to a different part of the country and ask people what they think of the Big XII, and many people will say “No defense.”Does that mean the Big XII sucks at defense? Because I know a lot of Iowa State fans try to claim otherwise.

Since your stats tend to be notoriously incorrect I will just ask. I am looking at OU’s 2017 schedule and I see 3 Big 12 games against teams that finished in the top 25. (OSU and TCUX2)

OU played a 3rd top 25 team in the Big12 championship game, I said regular season opponents in my post. So OU was just like Iowa playing it's 3rd team that finished in the AP top 25 in the Big10 championship game in 2015 as well.

I know that since ISU think that Iowa's season was super easy in 2015, they must also think that OU's schedule was super easy in '16, '17, '18, and '19 then, only playing 2 conference opponents in the regular season that finished in the AP top 25 and a 3rd in the CCG.

When I travel all over the U.S. the first thing I do is find a stranger and talk B1G offenses with them.

why not kkkirks career of 7-5?? I would say Campbell having the last years being that or better is good then

nah he only does youth wrestling...

Going 9-3 is a very good year, when have I ever said ISU didn't have a good year in '20?

The part I don’t think you are taking into account is that I think people are implying that those rated teams that Iowa played that season were equally as overrated as Iowa was. So citing their ratings doesn’t have much impact. That belief seemingly bore itself out that year with Iowa and 2 of the 3 ranked teams Iowa played losing their bowl games by 30 or more points. You could maybe make that case about OU’s 2019 season, but it would be a pretty loose comparison. (Not like that has ever stopped you before)

I know this is tough for you because as a Hok fan your specialty is mental gymnastics and not mathematics but follow me on this magical little analysis...

+2015 ToE Hoks (aka CFB Fake ID) -- played 12 games including one against FCS/MVC Illinois State who went 9-2 in their season... combined W/L of those 12 games -- 66-78. Removing the Illinois State record, the remaining 11 teams were a combined -- 57-76 - WOOF.

+2015 Boomers (aka Dissed then Disposed) -- played 12 games against FBS teams with a combined W/L record -- 78-66. Removing Tenn 8-4 record (OU's best record non-con game) and the 11 teams were a combined 70-62. Or put another way, a winning percentage TEN POINTS HIGHER than the ToE "meatgrinder".

+2016 Boomers (aka Stoops Farewell Tour) -- Combined 12 game schedule W/L -- 78-66

+2017 Boomers (aka Flag Planters) -- Combined 12 game schedule W/L -- 69-75* (*69-63 if 0-12 UTEP non-con removed)

+2018 Boomers (aka Baseball's for Nerds) -- Combined 12 game schedule W/L -- 74-69

+2019 Boomers (aka Wagon Tippers) -- Combined 12 game schedule W/L -- 74-71

One season (2017) in the five you mentioned did OU play a combined losing record and the teams they played STILL WON 3* MORE GAMES than the "Magical 2015 ToE Hoks" "meatgrinder" schedule.

*Arguably 12 if I steal a page from your book do some mental summersaults along with some selective data removal - removing UTEP from 2017 OU schedule and Ill.St. from 2015 ToE schedule

Gotta love fact checking the trolls.

The no defense is a tired and old narrative. B12 defenses were not great 5-10 years ago, but they were also playing against offenses that were incredibly explosive and had QBs like Mahomes and Mayfield. These offensive schemes are now moving into the SEC now and you can see how their elite defenses are struggling. B12 defenses have improved in stopping these spread offenses (and the offenses in the conference probably aren't as good as they were...missing those elite QBs).

Anyone who brings up the B12 defense negative, I pretty much dismiss them as uninformed.

So a random local that says the Big Ten is overrated = proof that the Big Ten is overrated.

But random local that says the Big XII plays no defense = uninformed idiot?

The poster I was responding to essentially said “the Big Ten is overrated. All you have to do is ask college football fans outside of Big Ten country what they think about the Big Ten, and they’ll tell you that it’s overrated.” Surely you can see how non-sensical that is given the response you just made above.

Exactly. The poll voters have a much clearer look at how to rank the Big12 teams because they actually play everyone in the conference and head to head actually means something. In the B1G its pretty much a crapshoot as teams get to beat up on the weak ones, and only have to face off against another top team very rarely, thus creating the impression that the B1G is so dominant and thus more teams should be ranked. I know actually looking at things in a logical manner is far beyond what any of these trolls are capable of, but it's worth a shot at trying to explain.

Who was the second best team you guys played this year?

Big 10 West is awful. Big 10 East is good.

Again, when you travel you are talking to random local people about Big 12 vs Big 10 football stereotypes?

That is the perception across the country... the B1G is overrated.

And the perception across the country is that the Big XII doesn’t play any defense, which apparently isn’t true. I guess perceptions aren’t worth much.

Do I believe that the Big Ten is overrated? Sure. But that's just because thinking you are #1 when you're not is by definition overrated. They also have the most fans, the most money, the biggest population areas and a lot of media behind them. It's a fine conference. On par with the B12 most years...better some, worse some. I think that in the past 20 years, there's been a lot of dead weight at the bottom that probably inflates records of the top teams more than what happens in some other conferences.

I just agree that most fans around the country would say they are overrated because B10 fans have been so outspoken about how good they are and you have guys like Herbstreit and Howard backing that up.
