*** Official Iowa State Season Thread ***

I wasn't able to watch. One observation and one question.
It sounds like Walker continued his progress.
What happened to GC? Anything serious?
Walker looks like he could be pretty darn good by the time he's done here or elsewhere assuming Prohm's time is up. Conditt rolled his ankle I believe.

I'm sort of glad it is a Covid yr, it's bad enough to be losing , but to have spent money on a full set of season tickets and all that time driving to Ames would be really depressing. Yeah I know last nights game wasn't in Ames my point still stands.

I blame Fred. I blame Fred for my giving a ****. Going to school in the morgan/ Mcdermott and mac/chizek years it was super easy to be a casual fan, know we sucked, and not care. We had a good time, and i didn't give a ****. Obviously i rather win than lose, but it didn't frustrate me beyond dealing with hawk fans.

Fred comes in, gets Royce, and suddenly we are interesting to watch and I start being a true fan, and now i have to deal with this *******.

Well it was certainly a frustrating game. For me I think it was frustrating because of how close we were. At times it looked like we were playing some of our best basketball and then we got lulled into a false sense of security.

Observations time. Conditt played his best game of the season I thought. Wasn’t fouling much, grabbing boards on both sides. Shame he got injured because I think was the difference in this game for us. Walker played well. That was the offensive growth I wanted to see from him, downside he had two bone headed turnovers that were costly (but fixable). Want to see more passing from him as I think that’s open up more for conditt too. Rasir was Rasir, lovely to see him get to the line like he has in the past. Johnson looked gassed out there, probably to due with him coming back from quarantine. Love the 5 assists and 1 T/O, would like to see one or two more rebounds. Upsetting thing for me about him is that he was making strides with his shot selection and this game was just oof which is a shame because elsewhere he was good. JCL has been frustrating to watch the last few games. I think he is forcing 2-3 shots a game and making dumb fouls. If I were to put on my coaching hat I’d criticize Steve for not taking a timeout earlier in the second half. He called one around 5-6 minutes left and I think it should been around the 7-8 minute range. That’s when our offense was breaking down and our ball movement was stagnant. Last thing I noticed and really liked seeing was after the game was done. Rasir was going around trying to cheer everyone up and encouraging everyone. That is the leadership I was looking from him earlier in the year. I can’t imagine how hard it is for the players, and I think Rasir understands the situation. For him to be that enthusiastic at the end just stood out to me. Anyone else notice that?

We were close because TCU played badly.
We had a couple stretches where we put things together, but 30+ minutes of just plain bad surrounded those.

Those teams would beat this squad by 20 points. Because they do things like rebound.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a great team, probably the worst in the league but there is enough talent to win some of these close games. Felt bad for the kids just being left to dangle in the wind down the stretch last night, they desperately needed a coach that could intervene and draw up plays to get them a good look but instead we go in to our 5 minute offense, which consists of 1 on 1 play and bad shots. Just like OU, textbook Prohm loss. Just gets lost when the going gets tough.

Disagree, seemed more like 25 minutes of good and 15 of bleh. Just so happened those 15 included the end of the second half. And I don’t think TCU played all that bad. First half they hit half their 3s and didn’t turnover the ball a lot. Plus their offensive rebounds they got.

Lets not forget one of their best players was out (Miles) and they got 20 offensive rebounds, many on second and third chance opportunities, it was bad all around. I shutter to think what KU will do to this team down low for two straight games.

I should not let myself get worked up about Iowa State basketball this year, but I have to get a few things off my chest... Yesterday I mentioned how excited I was to watch these guys because we were playing a team I thought we could have a legitimate chance to win against. Although the score was close, that game was the epitome of why Steve is not a P5 coach.

We have guys that act like they're playing hard but are mostly just out of control. Some of our guys could absolutely care less that they're playing defense and only care about getting their shot on offense. I've watched low level high school basketball players put in more effort for box outs. (We only had 23 defensive rebounds however we gave up 21 offensive rebounds. Solomon Young had 2 rebounds, which was less than 4 of our guards.)

Offensively, we do nothing special nor do we confuse the defense. We run small guards off of ball screens and down screens and expect them to make tough shots. JCL and JJ are similar to Nixon in that they have the green light no matter what and Prohm will not hold either accountable for taking bad shots.

Situationally, it was one of the worst games I've seen. With 4:35 left in the 1st half, JJ dunked it to put us up 9. By half, it was tied and we had only made one more shot... In the 2nd half, Tre scored a floater at 9:20 to go up 5. We scored two more times, both under 30 seconds left.

In that lapse in the 2nd half, Steve took a timeout after 5 minutes after our basket. The play he drew up was a complete joke and Bolton ended up air balling a 3..

I feel bad for the guys on our team because Steve thinks he's putting them out there to succeed but he's actually putting them out there with one of their hands tied behind our back. I feel bad especially for Bolton because he has to do literally EVERYTHING and he does it playing out of position.

Keep Bolton, Walker, Foster, and Hinson if you can. Burn the rest to the ground.

I can give you the first half. TCU had some nifty sets and passing going on.

I just checked the box score and we were dead even to better than TCU in just about every category...besides rebounding of course. 51-34 there. On the bright side we were 21-24 on free throws.

That is as about as freaking pathetic as it gets right there. That is all you need to know about this program.

JP has to realize by now that this program is floundering. It's pretty apparent that Prohm's coaching "skills" are minimal, and it doesn't really appear that these kids are playing for him. This is the lowest point in ISU MBB that I can remember for a long, long time.

Actually, I’m sure Jamie is not paying any attention at all. He’s probably just going to ignore everything, and Steve will be here for at least 19 more years.

Do you guys actually listen to yourselves? Everything will happen at the end of the season. He’s not going to fire him today.
