ARLINGTON, Texas — Iowa State star tight end Charlie Kolar has a message for anyone criticizing Brock Purdy’s performance in Saturday afternoon’s 27-21 loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game.

Purdy, the Cyclones’ star junior quarterback, completed 27-of-40 passes for 322 yards and one touchdown during the contest, but that production came with three interceptions, including one on the team’s final drive that sealed the Sooners’ sixth-straight Big 12 title.

Kolar was on the receiving end of six of Purdy’s 27 completions for 92 yards and broke multiple tackles on his way to scoring the team’s only passing touchdown.

“He’s a f***ing warrior,” Kolar said of his quarterback. “I mean, you can say what you want about three...

I can get frustrated with some decisions but Purdy is amazing and the best ISU has ever had at qb. No hate from me or any other ISU fan I know. Hard fought loss, thems the breaks.
Guys have a bad day sometimes, this wasn't his best day. But we'd be having a few worse years without Purdy around. He's won a lot more games than he's lost in the last 2.5 years. I'd be perfectly happy to see him here another year, at least.

The guy had a bad game. It happens. The characteristics that lead to games like today are what makes him clearly the best QB in school history.

Kid is a player, and is as tough and clutch as they come.

Dear lord where have you been today.

Some analytics folks are finding that QBs that throw the fewest INTs have fewer wins because they are more risk adverse. So there's some evidence that a bit of risk-taking (or certain level of confidence, maybe?) is needed for a QB to win the maximum number of games.

Purdy certainly takes some risks, throwing balls up for grabs. Hard to know if he's throwing "too many," costing us games, or throwing enough to maximize our wins. But based on the fact we're seeing some if the best football ever played in JTS, I don't think you can automatically say he is taking "too many" risks.

I mean his for interception he just under threw the ball otherwise that was a TD to Kolar. I would say the only interception I was mad about was the second one where he could've ran the ball instead of throwing it.

No hate here either. I do think it's a little disappointing that Purdy as an upperclassman has not improved in certain areas. These are things that are coachable. It has been fun to watch him run the ball this year though.

Purdy could have throw a few passes a little better, and I am sure he knows that better than me. Guy was out there fighting for everything on every play, running for his life most of the game. OU was just plain better than ISU in that game, and to overcome that someone has to step up and make great plays. Purdy and ISU just didn't get that done yesterday. The fact that they were so close is what is frustrating. Just need to get a little better and they will.
