I realize Marty is an idiot but I caught part of their show this afternoon and they had a couple interesting comments/questions about the restructuring of the staff. First, when have you ever seen both coordinators replaced by a head coach in one year? Usually it is only one but not both. Second, when have you ever seen a coordinator retained at a school and reassigned to lesser responsibilities? Can anyone recall either of these happening at a BCS school?
Personally, I do not know what to think of this move. I do think something had to be done. I think this year's defense was the worst I have ever seen at ISU. McFarland deserved to get demoted for his simple inability to get plays in. It is obvious that Chizik made a mistake when he gave his buddies coordinator jobs. When he originally named his staff, I think there was some concern about these guys but we all had faith in Chizik. I give him credit for manning up to his mistakes and making a change but that is a very critical mistake for the CEO of a organization. I just get concerned about starting with a new offense and defense in year 3. Perhaps because McFarland and Bolt are still here it will be seamless. Chizik's succes or failue at ISU is completely dependent upon getting his coordinators right this time around.
