For me in the Des Moines area gas prices themselves are a big factor. I always have to drive up to Ankeny to QT or Casey’s.

If you get rid of the gas aspect I would say QT or HyVee. Casey’s would be right there for availability. I don’t get people’s love of Kwik Star. Maybe I’m to elitist but the appeal seems to be they have some groceries. I’m not getting my groceries from a gas station.

How do you not end up at Mill's fleet farm if gas pricing is your driving factor? Also free popcorn for the drive home.

I heard a story that Casey's (Iowa based) and Kwik Trip/Star (Wisconsin based) had a gentlemen's agreement to stay out of each other's state. Casey's broke that agreement years ago, so Kwik Trip decided to retailiate. That's why you're seeing so many of them being built in Iowa now.

As for the poll, I voted Casey's....but mainly because the one I use regularly has a fantastic group of long-time employees. They do a great job.

I like the new K&G market stores or what ever they are called. good variety of "fresh" food and drink choices, plus growler fill stations. KT/S has decent variety but fails on the fresh food offerings. Casey's fresh food is the best but fails on the variety aspect.

also does anyone else call K@G some variation of jizz and split or along those lines?? :jimlad:

Nailed it. Used to surprise me to walk into KT/S and find the daily specials, sandwiches for $1.00 or $1.50 or something like that. Great price and options to choose from. But I have yet to find any of those options that can come close to competing with the quality of a Casey's tenderloin (or pizza, not a fan of KT/S pizza).

Casey's and Kwik Trip/Star seem to have the best upkeep.

Casey's food options are better and in my experience they're never as busy. Also during Covid, the newest Caseys' bathrooms are perfect as they're large and mainly touchless.

QT is the best in Iowa, followed closely by Kwik Star. QT has slightly better food options (Kwik Star pizza is terrible). K&G is extremely hit or miss. They have awesome locations and ****** ones. You can always count on QT or Kwik Star (Kwik Trip if you're in Wisconsin or Minnesota) to deliver.

Casey's has great food, but no matter what town you're in it has the slowest, most unaware, mouthbreathing **** sticks running the place.

There have been Kwik Stars in Northeast Iowa for 25 years. Not sure when Casey's entered Wisconsin, but Kwik Star has had a presence up here as long as I can remember, basically.

The other ones are better at hiring gas station employees?

Drastically so. Kwik Star employees are actually really well compensated for what you would expect from a gas station.

In any town that has both stores, go into the Kwik Star, and then go into the Casey's. If there's a line at the Kwik Star register, it's all hands on deck and employees get behind the counter and get you checked out. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a Casey's and saw a 10 person line, one register open, and the fat cow manager sitting in her office with the door open bullshitting with someone on her cell phone rather than come out and help.

I've always found QT employees to be pretty good too.

Now that you say that......

I know the first Casey's in WI I came across was in Fennimore and that was 2008, not sure if there were any others.

They're really starting to pop up now but they're usually taking over places that are pretty rundown.
