Big play Curvey and Deandre Jackson new BBQ

I heard these guys had this place at a location or two down in Texas and decided to move to the DM area. They closed up shop down there and the locals were pretty disappointed.

Comparable. I think the pulled pork was better, brisket is just different (they served it not sliced but it in the whole slab) ribs were very similar.

That said KC Joe's is my first love, but I do love sitting down at Q39.

Joe's and Q39 are where locals take people from out of town who have never had either.

They are both really good, but you can do a lot better here.

I've been gone for about four years now, sadly I haven't tried Cornbread bbq yet. I see tons of street cred for them on here.
Brisket is fantastic and the sides were good. Wasn't impressed with their burnt ends.

I'm not disputing, can you name your favs so I can check them out? Love KC BBQ.

Hawg Jaw, Slaps and Biemer's in Lawrence. I think Joe's is meh and Q39 is a good dine in option when you want table service.

I think that the barbeque shrimp at Jack Stack is one of the best dishes in KC from any restaurant.

The sliced pork at Bryant's is also one of my favorites. I don't like much else there and usually hate fat in my meat, but that stuff is really solid.

There are a lot of good/great BBQs but I find REAL joints have great sides (other than Mac&Cheese) like beans, slaw and cornbread. AND, they offer delicious 1/2 chicken! I have been told Cornbread in Ames doesn't really offer cornbread and no 1/2 chicken. Why do so many places not have 1/2 chicken!? In the South this is never a problem.

KC BBQ can take a lifetime to master as Macloney started out by listing some favorites. These are my opinions, I agree the shrimp at Jack Stack and the pork at Bryant's are really good. Jack Stack has some of the best sides like the corn and bbq veggies and the best bbq beans in town, in the world actually. The ribs at Rosedale are the best.

One more item that has been my absolute best bbq experience, nirvana so to speak, was the burnt end sandwich at Gates. Be warned that on a different visit it was the worst bbq experience as it was all fat and salt. I keep trying and most of the time it is really good.

Just remember my saying, there is no bad bbq in KC, there's just some better than others

It may seem petty because I love the place but I hate the little 3 inch saucer of bbq sauce at Jack stack. Maybe it's not fancy, just give me a bottle.

Best Turkey - ShortEs
Best Sausage - Smokey Ds
Best Side - Jethros Jalepeno Cream Corn
Best Sauces - Cactus Bobs

Ribs and Brisket is hard to judge because it just varies depending on what day you go.

Jack Stacks Crown Prime Beef Rib is just a party in my mouth.

I've had good pulled pork at Smoking Guns and baby backs at Woodyard.

I used to work by Woodyard and we used to beat that place up.

Rosedale is also solid.

Barbeque is like pizza, it has to be really bad to be really bad. KC has a lot of okay bbq, but also some of the best you can find.

I'm glad that Des Moines is finally starting to really good options. When I lived in Iowa it was pretty much Big Daddy's down by the old Clyde Williams Stadium.

Battles was solid and I had a homie who worked there and he really hooked it up. I always ate burgers (pork pizza burger) at Hickory Park, because even back in the day I wasn't a complete noob.

I went there once and will never go back. It was after one of our 11 AM kickoffs so I got there around 3:30 and they were only serving "bar snacks". Who the f goes to a BBQ place for "bar snacks"? I decided if they can't serve there normal menu throughout the day I am not interested in going back.
I’m sorry that happened to you

They weren't sold out. They said they only serve "bar snacks" between like 2 and 4:30, which I thought was dumb considering the after football game traffic would be showing up at the time I did.
Quality over quantity
