Kirk Ferentz getting sued for being racist

I’m guessing the 3 players are

Goodson
Belton
Tracy

Seems like them and their parents have been vocal about starting a racial sensitivity program and I’m guessing Ferentz uses the time to focus solely on that and not questions that people actually want answered.

If KF, BF, Doyle, Barta, etc. are all fired, how is the Iowa program a “mess”? They would have rid the program of all the alleged bad actors, and would still have a lot of talent on the roster.
I mean how would it not be a mess if that happened? Obviously don't think that will occur, but in theory if it did...

- Time would be needed for university to hire a new AD
- New AD would need/want full control over a national search for new coach
- Less that 3 months from the season, that could not realistically happen now and would have to take place in next coaching carousel cycle
- Means you'd have to appoint a "caretaker" coach for a year - who are those options? Would any current assistant be viable, or would all of KF's staff be too toxic to touch in this scenario?
- A slew of potential transfers - how many would stay loyal to Iowa post KF? Sure there would be some, but many would possibly jump ship and would be prime waiver candidates
- A full season with no known predecessor PLUS stigma surround these events and this outcome would be brutal on the recruiting trail - 2021 class seems solid if KF is still around, but if he's gone you could see mass departure and 2022 class would be next to impossible to recruit for
- Other alternative is to hire someone now, but options are limited and high profile coaches are not going to move this time of year so you'd be stuck with a less than stellar selection

For starters, your best class (ever?) will be stripped down pretty heavily. A good chance that key players will transfer because who really knows what their feelings are right now. The program will have a dark cloud handing over it and kids will be less likely to consider U of I for the coming years. In-state kids will shift their attention to ISU/out of state options. If this whole thing results in the firing of the staff, it will be the beginning of a rough patch for that program.

That was a joke. All the guys you listed are going to be sophomores. I am hoping they are seniors or at the least upperclassmen. Three out of the group of Hankins, ISM, Smith, Golston, Jackson or Nixon.

This feels like Trump and Kanye, maybe Candice Owens was too busy?
Yeah you can make a ton of analogies and point out other examples of what Kirk could be doing. Those analogies don't have to be race related either. There's no doubt those guys are coming up to make some sort of statement about Kirk's character, the culture surrounding Iowa football, and how their voices are being heard now / how everything is changing.

The issue is that it's too late. The flood gates have already been opened. Kirk and his staff would not have changed had former players not spoken up about this. Nothing can be done to erase any of the past and none of it is going away any time soon.

Maybe. Or maybe Phil Parker gets promoted to interim head coach, they keep most of the assistants like Kelvin Bell, Kelton Copeland, Jay Niemann, etc. (who have been the main recruiters in this class), Iowa retains most of its 2021 recruiting class, few players transfer out, and Iowa is able to hire a good head coach after the 2020 season and never skips a beat.

Yeah well Iowa hasn't really been up front and honest about this entire situation so I understand Howe's logic in not going to them first with all of that. Also, Rob didn't publish his opinions or use excerpts from DJK's statements and comment throughout the entire story. He simply gave DJK a platform to tell his story.

wait a minute, when has Iowa has been up front and honest on any situation? It is just their mode operation. No one holds them accountable, they don't have to be upfront.

That's what I'm saying. Iowa has never been upfront about anything so Rob even asking them to refute any of these claims would've been a dead end. Not saying what he did was necessarily correct, just saying I can see it from his perspective as to why he did what he did.

I remember my first beer.

I don't understand how you don't go scorched earth on this situation. However, we're witnessing that Iowa cares more about their football program than the kids that play in it. So, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that.

In a scenario where house is cleaned, is keeping most of the assistants (even if not named in this) feasible?

Also a new coach would be miles behind on 2022 class.

How many players would transfer out? This scenario would be prime for immediate eligibility waiver for transfers.

I agree long term, but if Kirk were to leave before the season started I could very easily see Stoops as an interim coach for a year.

Which one though? I could see Mike leaving Alabama for the head spot at Iowa. Don't see Bob coming back and I don't see Mark leaving UK head coaching job right now.

Sean Snyder is available. Honestly, if Iowa drops Ferentz, I believe that Barta will hire an AA coach as his way to prove he isn't racist. See, I hired XX so that means I'm not racist.

I would absolutely hate to see this, but I'd throw the bag at Eric Bieniemy from the Chiefs and see if he'd take it. I know he turned down his alma mater but Iowa is a much better program than CU and can pay him a heck of a lot more, assuming they have $$ left after all of this.
