What about the systemic racism though?

I don’t think I would characterize it as systemic racism, but nonetheless the issue is thankfully being addressed and both players and staff appear to be committed to fostering an inclusive culture moving forward.

You already know Iowa football is going to "get away" with this and Ferentz will be praised nationally for being one of the pioneers for change. Puke.

These coordinated PR approved tweets look terrible to me.

But I did get to this one and it wasn’t on stationery and wasn’t full of buzzword corporate bs.

"By golly I've been givin' money fer years to IoWay football and your kind normally just shuts up and does yer job. Not my fault you can't conform to how white folks do it, so shut up...this school won't know what to do if my eyeballs aint on that TV set!"

Kirk is a hero in this situation. If he ends up firing Doyle I can only imagine how much you guys will worship him

Staff? You don't even know how culpable Brian, Kirk and others are at this moment.

::One coach put on leave and several manufactured, University approved tweets later::

"Issue addressed"

Iowa football right now.

You don't think a policy allowing one tweet a month that has to be pre-approved is alarming? I get they have since changed it but the timeline is even more alarming that they changed their policy when all the former players started speaking out.

Yup, the policy was stupid and tone deaf. Worse than the outright ban. The former players speaking out made it obvious that a culture shift is needed, so that is what the new policy is designed to do. Not sure why you guys are criticizing Ferentz and staff for listening to his players and making the changes that they want to see.

Is it though? Am I the only one that has seen someone who is on the authoritarian side who was also clueless. It is pretty simple to me. It’s someone who doesn’t want to be bothered by distractions. They delegate dealing with the small stuff to other people.

There are two different types IMO. An authoritarian micromanager and a authoritarian leave me alone to do the specific aspects I like leader.
I just have such a hard time believing that a football coach, who spends so much time both directly with players and directly with coaches, has never encountered these issues being presented by the players now.

Am I convinced he will be punished for it? No. But I doubt he wasn't aware of at least some of what has happened, and after that point, it is his choice to ignore it.

Tom was proud of how Jane Meyer was treated, Brian living in Section 8, James getting into an altercation with an off duty cop?

I'm glad they are making changes. Where I disagree is the thought that this hasn't been completely pervasive and ignored for several years. He's had ample opportunity to change the culture and didn't. Hell, just 4-5 days ago he was talking about having to take a vote on kneeling.

I have this conversation with my kids all the time when they say "sorry". Are you sorry for what you did, or sorry you got caught?

You literally cut off the rest of the sentence, which made it obvious that I was talking about the changes to the Twitter policy. Troll on though, brother.

So because Kirk got rid of an awful policy a couple days ago we shouldn't criticize him when he created it in the first place?

The sad thing is that there are some social media posts floating around that emulate that rhetoric..
