Cubs get Kevin Gregg

mlbtraderumors has alot of information on it. Beware though that alot of the stuff never happens because they are just reporting the rumors. It is fun to watch to see how it turns out though.

Does this mean anything for Kerry Wood?

I find that the best site for hot stove rumors is RotoWorld.

Nice to see the Cubs addressing their pitching needs. I told many people at the start of last year that they wouldn't go far b/c their starters really don't go past 7 innings very often (Yes I am aware that Big Z and Lilly did a few times) and there middle relief wasn't exactly great. I think Gregg will help fill in a gap and then if they can figure out a way to get Peavy they could be set up for another nice run that leaves me saying "There's always next year" again come October.

Well Gregg as a middle reliever is interesting since he doesn't have great numbers for that role. Certainly an improvement over Howry, though.

I'd hate to loose Wood and I don't know much about Gregg.

Kerry is getting some age on him however. May be a good time to trade while they can get some value.

Kerry Wood has been on a one-year contract for at least the past 4 years, I wouldn't worry about it. I hope if Gregg remembers that home run that SuperButt hit off him in Miami?

I think there is a good chance this is the first part of a trade for Peavy. The cubs didn't have what the Padres demanded, which was a pitcher, so they had to involve another team to get that pitcher. This "could" be that part they needed. He would then go on to the Padres.

Right, but Peavy is a starter, and Wood and Gregg were/are both closers. The only way that would work would be if they included another starter in the deal, Marquis or Marshall possibly. The Padres do need a closer....
