Iowa Football Recruiting

LaPorta does look like he has potential, I'll give him that, but he's nowhere near as good as Kolar, Allen, or Soehner right now.

And the verdict is still out on Easton Dean and Loving-Black, but I'd venture a guess that if either of those two played last year they would have had similar stats that LaPorta did.

What did LaPorta's offer list look like since he's a future star?

Kolar is definitely a stud. Jury is still out on the other 2 you mentioned. Serviceable is how I would describe them at this point. Kolar will play on Sundays and may even leave after next year. I would think he would be one of the first 5 TEs taken.

Saying LaPorta isn’t anywhere near as good as Allen or Soehner right now is laughable. Neither Allen nor Soehner have proven that they are threats in the passing game. LaPorta put up better receiving stats than both of them despite playing sparingly for half of the season.

I know Allen is supposed to have a reputation as a good blocker (I have no idea about Soehner), but LaPorta was already a pretty good blocker, especially for a true freshman.

LaPorta played 12 games and his competition was Beyer. Lol stop it Benji

This will be a fun one to revisit in a couple years. I wonder if it will age as well as your Michael Ojemudia take. I’m sure you have quite a few other hot takes in your posting history too.

Even in the biggest attempt of a troll there is nothing similar about Iowa and ISU’s offenses.

The Kirk Ferentz playbook is win with defense, find and develop under recruited players, use the TE to your advantage. There are a few other things, but CMC is for sure following Ferentz playbook on these.

Unlike you little brothers, we don’t compare our recruiting success on if we won a recruit agains the Iowa Hawkeyes. They staff finds kids they want then go after them. Obviously it’s nice to compete for the top 3 or 5 in your state on a yearly basis, but after that the talent in Iowa by in large has run dry

Unfortunately for ISU CMC is getting beat often by PJ Fleck and Scott Frost as well as Iowa. Not a good sign when everyone in your geographic region is killing it on the recruiting trail, and you are sucking hind teat.

Who had better TE’s last year?? I think you know the answer so stop trying to reuse things or troll.

Iowa graduated 2 1st round draft picks at TE the year before. It caught Iowa a little short handed losing a So. and a Jr. to the NFL Draft. They will be right back to where they were fairly quickly.

So according to you, because Iowa state offered at one time, that means that Iowa state really wanted them BUT if the situation is reversed then the Hawks never wanted them right? Got it

Not at all. Bruce was down to Iowa and ISU, and before he decided I was on here saying Bruce was one of only 4 WR that Iowa still wanted. If he would have picked ISU, that would have obviously been a loss to ISU there. Same with Llewellyn, same with Fidone.

On the flip side, lets just say for instance McLaurin picks ISU (that would be a good get BTW). I would correctly say that Iowa stopped recruiting him long ago as they are full at LB. That is a fact no matter who McLaurin picks. Same goes for Mbow, he isn't a take for us any longer, we are down to 2 guys right now on OL that we are going after.

Right now there just aren't may players left that would pick ISU that Iowa is even recruiting. I think you are out on the 1 RB we want (Ricky Parks), the 2 WR we might still take (Keegan Johnson and Bell), the 2 OL we might take (not sure if we take both) Alt and Myslinski. We are full at DE and LB, so if you get one with an Iowa offer, we simply aren't recruiting or taking another one. I am not sure where we stand at DB recruiting right now, as we are gonna take 1 more, so maybe Iowa and ISU are still fighting over a guy there, but I'm not sure.

Iowa has the better tradition with TE’s over the last 10-20 years. Iowa would have had the best TE in the state had either Fant or Hockenson stayed, they didn’t.

ISU absolutely had the better TE last year and has way more proven guys than Iowa coming into this year. The other ISU TE’s I hear good things about, mostly on here, but don’t watch enough ISU football to know much more.

I do think LaPorta has potential to be a very good player, but jury is still out and should get pushed by the incoming Freshmen.
