That this year would be much different from what it is must be living in a fantasy land. We all want the program to be successful and I believe it will be. I have been a clone fan for more than forty years. It is too bad that we live in a world of instant gratification. Success was not going to be achieved this year. Noe we can all **** and moan about the record but I'll bet that the majority of the people complaining have no idea of what it takes. I was at Okie St. and we do not have the same kind of athletes yet. Just be thankful that we do not play TT with our freshman CBs.

So going into the season, we should've expected to lose at UNLV, get blown out by Baylor and to hand football games to KU and CU? I wasn't expecting an overnight miracle - but 2 wins thus far is very disappointing.

I'm glad, while they have not produced, the coaches/players expect more than some of our fans do.

To be honest I think we haven't gained anything since last season, especially on defense. The offense is better but our defense is worse this year I think. And we keep committing stupid penalties, that is unacceptable as well. The game is won in the trenches and we have not improved there either and have a long ways to go there before we are going to have a consistent running game or a solid pass rush.

Two wins against Kent State and SDSU who used to play UNI is not really adequate gratification at all, not even for iowa State. We have two more chances but we need to look a little sharper on defense. Like we need to hold the express to less than 400 yards this week if we want to win. Now I know you think this might be asking too much of our young dudes, but Why Not? Why Not, Here, Now on Fox so we can be proud of how the season ended with a shellacking of the Tough Reign Tigers.

Did our talent level go down when Ace, Tuba, Banks, and Braaksma left?

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that. I think 6 wins was the over/under. We could have lived with 5 wins and not given up all hope with 4, but we are looking at 3 wins....3 freaking wins. If that was your expectation going in, then I hope you were in the minority because I want to associate with others that expect success.

As far as bringing in talent, I'll believe it when I see it. We have a couple of guys that are making an impact. LJ is a prime example, but he is one of the few that had multiple quality offers from other BCS schools. Thus, he stands out on the field. However, we haven't seen a 'huge' influx of this type of talent. We are convincing ourselves that we are seeing this tremendous increase in talent, but the facts are that we really aren't or haven't..

3 wins? Heck I've come to reality around the time we lost to Baylor and A&M we aren't going to win another game this season.

As far as talent, yes we lost some on the defensive side last year but it's this coaching staff's job to re-stock the cupboards and we haven't seen it yet. We have some promising kids at some of the skill positions but without improvement on both lines their efforts will go to waste. The game is won in the trenches and that by far is our weak link on both sides of the ball.

Our signature breakdown was maybe the Nebraska game at home when we looked like boys playing men at times. To let them rough us up when we played them tough in Lincoln the year before said we were in trouble for this year. The offense has improved but our defense is worse this year. The offense was totally inept in a game we could have won if they were not protecting AA from injury. Then it snowballed.

No, but would 2 more wins really help that much? No, we're in a rebuilding mode.

It's just a game and there's one winner and one loser. Except way back when when they allowed "ties" and you had two losers.

For real? OF COURSE 2 more wins would help. Ignore fan moral for a second - how about the confidence of the players/coaches? Ticket sales for '09?

As it sits, it will be VERY hard to sell ISU FB tickets for next season. Pollard's toughest job yet, IMO.

And by my calculations - we should have 4 more wins...

Iowa (6 red zone trips, 3 points)
UNLV (Absolutely no first half, then one play and done in the OT)
KU (Completely gave the game away)
CU (Similar to KU)

So you've actually just proved we're not that far removed from a bowl eligible season.

This is the bus we're on. We all knew that going in. We have no choice but to enjoy the ups and get thru the downs. Better days are ahead.

We must be on a GM bus.

This excuse comes up every week and it's a crock.

I notice you mention Okie State and ignore the lesser teams we played. We got beat by Baylor, Texas A&M, Colorado, and UNLV, and pushed to the wire by a bad Kent State team. Were you at these games? Nobody expected to compete with Okie State or Missouri this year, but we have the number and kind of athletes to do better than 1-4 against Baylor, A&M, Colorado, UNLV, and Kent State.

Anyone who thinks....

I thought this was a thread for everyone except closet Hawk fans. Oh well.

They are our clones. Keep your head up and keep going to the games. With all the problems in our country and the world right now our struggling football team is not something to get worked up about. Does it suck that we are not playing well? Yes, of course it does. Remember it is a game, a game that we love and that a bunch of tough, hard-working kids are going all out for. Keep supporting the team and good things will come.
