Not speaking for BC, but if one was to believe Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus when he said recently:

"Now, odds are, you might catch coronavirus and might not even get symptoms."

.....the answer would probably be no.

I'd love if there were a way for us to know if we've had it.

I don't even know what I had in Dec/Jan but it was nasty--Drs. never named it--, and I'm glad I won't have it now.

There is no "zero tolerance." Literally nobody has that expectation. It is about trying to manage the spread.

I don't know what it looks like when schools reopen. Purely my guess is that we reach some point weeks or months from now where we feel like the number of cases needing treatment or hospitalization is comfortably within the capacity of the health care system to handle them. And - again, just my guess - then most people's lives probably go back to normal at that point.

They'll probably still recommend isolation for new cases and tell vulnerable people like seniors or people with underlying conditions to remain extra cautious. And we might need to be prepared to do this all over again in the fall if it flares up again as some experts predict.

I get your frustrations here but we're just passing along information. We haven't even begun to do what experts really think is necessary to manage this.

So if you are ready to close schools, why stop there? Why schools but not every store and restaurant in Iowa? They're just as likely to transmit diseases as kids in schools.

I think we are headed there sooner rather than later. Illinois just closed all bars/restaurants outside of carry-out or delivery.

That's what several states are doing. In Illinois and Ohio (one run by a Democrat and the other run by a Republican), all bars and restaurants are or will be closed. Take out and delivery are still available.

Again, this is NOT about removing every possibility of transmission, but it is about trying to limit them as much as possible.

I'd recommend reading up on DeWine in Ohio. He seems to be taking this extremely seriously.

I'm of the mindset it doesn't matter if it's named. I'm not going to be any less sick or dead if there isn't a name attached. Viruses don't give a crap, why should I? Not unlike the weather channel and there naming of winter storms. Is calling a winter storm "Bob" going to somehow make it worse? Should I get more prepared for..............."Bob"? It's BS.

So if the good Dr. Ghebreyesus is correct.........there could be 10....100....1,000x or more the people who have been exposed, got over it and are now immune. We will never know. And that's the rub. Then it becomes up to each individual whether they want to suck it in, run around like chicken little or sit back, see what is being said and written and say...wait a minute. Then decide for themselves which is the best route to take as a(like the good Dr. said in that same article)"moral and civil duty".

The problem with online school is FAPE. Districts would have to provide devices (which many already do) and wireless access to kids, at least those without it at home. Maybe for all. Public education has to be free. That is a lot of hotspots needed.

In my opinion, you either tack the time on to the end or you forgive it entirely. Unless the feds are going to provide economic help in providing wireless access, online learning at the K-12 level won’t happen.

Its not going to be possible for many schools, especially those in rural areas, less than half are one to one schools, those that are providing computers or notebooks to every student. Half of my students only have access to the internet while they are in school.

Reynolds is going to have to bit down hard, and start forgiving days, this is just starting and is only going to get worse, before it gets better. There is no other way to slow down the spread of the virus, but to shut everything down, and pray that stops it.
 
Just read on FB that some people in Ames are doing a 14 day self quarantine due to direct contact with a individual who test positive.

And here we go....
