We bag on Kirk H, but if I remember correctly, he only changed his commitment when the coach he commited to left. It wasn't as if Royboy took him away from Tim F.
Yep, AND we should not be completely bitter with Kirk for not honoring his verbal as it is highly unlikely Jamaal Tinsley would have signed with us if Kirk would have been at ISU. I know not all would agree, but I personally will take two years of Jamaal compared to four years of Kirk.
Ummmm...so? May I ask what that would prove exactly?
If he is, he is, if not oh well. Either way he's coming to ISU.
You're right. I'm rooting for the kid. I am just troubled with how young he is, and how much time there is before he gets to college. So many things can happen between now and then, like coaching changes, new offers from big programs, injuries, etc.
Someone earlier in the thread said something like "A verbal isn't worth the paper it is printed on." And while that's a bit overstated, we've got a long time before the kid enrolls at ISU, assuming that he will at all. I have a hard time believing that he would hang up on the Ks, Cals, and Billy Gs of the world if they come calling.
Just to let you all know. Wesley Staten comes with something else. A best friend named Perry Ellis. Right now Ellis is projected to be a top 10 2012 player. He is about 6-7 to 6-9 depending on who you talk to. Staten lived with Ellis for the summer and play on the same AAU squad. So hopefully we are recruiting Ellis as well. Every big time school in the country is also recruiting Ellis.

2) Yes. However, I'm just a little less optimistic than others on this board. If the kid is truly as good as some say he is, he'll get other offers and 4 years is a long time to stay committed to a school that - let's face it - hasn't been successful in recent years. Also, I'm troubled by the awkward position GMac would be in if the kid got hurt or didn't play to his potential and ended up as a low to mid-major recruit. Finally, I'm a little weary with regard to recruitment of 14 year-olds by any coach. I just think that age is too young to make significant life decisions such as the decision to choose one's collegiate education. However, I realize the hand that we are dealt. Other coaches are offering kids early, to our coaches have to do it as well to stay ahead of the curve. I hope the Staten commitment works out, that he can be a top 50 or so player, and that he keeps a firm commitment to the Cyclones. But I realize that four years is a long time, and a lot can happen in that time that would change things.

I agree with this but if he's as good as some say he would be that much harder to get on board.
Listen I would love to be like KU and get in on guys late and still sign them. The fact is we have to do it a little differently at ISU, and while it may not be the best situation I'm willing to let the coaches do what they feel they need to to win.
