This is why Prohm must go........

You know, now that you mention it there was something that came up towards the end of that season that was drug up by a complete doucheb*g posing as a sports journalist by the name of Gregg Doyel (and seriously, the guy is a turd. I would pay money to watch him get a violent beating and pay better money to do it myself. The guy is the biggest POS in sports journalism, which is saying quite a bit when you put him up next to Skip Bayless). Anyway, IIRC, the "controversy" revolved around paying a third party to set up the basketball schedule and some shenanigans that revolved around that. I think it was much ado about nothing, and we didn't even get light sanctions because of it. It ended up being a complete non-story in the end. If I have my facts wrong and someone who knows better or more than I do wants to chime in, then feel free.

Now, remember that this whole site started as an effort to fire Wayne Morgan, so guys like Jeremy and others back from the start of CycloneFanatic.com were all about getting rid of him; I remember a few of them telling the rest of us about how bad things were behind the scenes and just how much trouble we potentially we could have gotten in. Naturally, when pressed for details we were given the run-around; "Oh, we can't really tell you. It's top secret! We'll tell you when we can, but it's too soon!". IMO it was complete BS.

Oh,yeah, the "EA Sports" fiasco. Yeah, that was drastically overblown by a guy who helped to define internet troll journalism.

Ah. The old “ISU was bad 40 years ago and we should use that as our reference point rather than looking at recent history and striving to at least match that” argument. Reeks of desperation.

if a coach is clearly unable to keep the program at the level he inherited - it’s time for a better coach. Or we could try it your way, and lower expectations because of where the program was decades ago.

Which approach should a winner take? If you were a leader, which route do you think will best help achieve success?

I actually don't even think the inherited level is a requirement. Consecutive years of at least a 5 seed is a really high mark to sustain.

But making the tourney consistently shouldn't be too much to ask.

Pollard will not fire Steve even after a poor showing next year. His make or break season will be Bolton’s sr year. Admitting the Prohm hire was a failure will not be easy for him.

Thats a really bad way to run the program. Hope you are wrong.

My point was simply to say that you can't use "You can't fire a guy who had two bad years and one good one" when we have an AD who literally did that. And like you said, the NIT year was a relatively good year. I don't think Prohm should or will be fired this year. I know some disagree and that's their right.

Yeah, I get it, and what I could have written was that it took only one "bad" year out of 3 (and we still finished above .500) for WM to get canned under Pollard.

I do like JP and think he's done much more good for ISU than he has done bad, but the reason for that firing was pretty transparent, despite all the sound and fury signifying nothing around the EA Sports story.

Wasnt there something in mcdermott's contract that gave him extra time based on potential NCAA issues? I seem to remember him getting that time too. I cant find the contract online anywhere from back in those days now though

I honestly don't remember.

Well I think Gary Thompson had a lot to do with Morgan getting fired and probably McDermott getting hired. I passed by him as he stormed out after Morgans last game at Hilton. He did not look happy. As always the big donors will have Jamie's attention.

Wait, are you trying to say Jamie pays attention to his monied boosters?

Well I doubt that Gary Thompson signed off on the Steve Prohm hiring - he's a fan of more authoritative coaches who run more structure.
I'd bet he still shakes his head and mutters "you can get that shot anytime" when ISU jacks another 3...
