I mean that's my opinion. I think Iowa would be an 8 seed if the season ended today but I'm not on the committee

No, supposedly NET is just one of a few metrics (Kenpom, RPI, etc) that the committee supposedly has on each teams sheet.

He got buried because he got suspended right away last season. He put up OK numbers on a bad team the year before.

Apparently, all you have to do is average 1.8 PPG and 1.0 RPG as a senior and be suspended multiple times to not be considered a miss.
