Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Your "NBA talent" Haliburton hasn't scored 28 points once this whole season. And your gripe today is that Garza didn't do much AFTER he got to 28?
You do know that the "NBA talent" term has been made by the media/scouting services right?
You could have had a much better comeback vs one that literally has nothing to do with it.

Don't think Garza's talent really translates to the NBA but I think he can find a spot with the right team.

I do think he's a helluva college basketball player. Personally I'd rather have a Garza then a guy who's only with the team 1 or 2 years.

Go to bed, think of a new angle, start a fresh troll tomorrow.

It's not a troll. It's been happening all year where he disappears at the end of games. I'm asking why you think it happens

It happens when you are milking clock because you are ahead. Iowa has 4 guards that shoot 80+% from the line. Pass it around and get fouled. Smart efficient bball.

It's not a one game thing. He cost Iowa a game when he disappeared too

Yeah it was just a weird comparison. All sorts of players get drafted for reasons other than if they score 28 points. THT didn't.

Now to Garza, I think he can make an NBA team and come in for certain situations. I dont think it's a suprise that most people will assume the defense will be what holds him back in some evaluations.
I mentioned in another thread a while ago that he reminds me of Frank Kaminsky and that's who the studio crew compared him to after the game. That's a good thing, he's done just fine.

Guess it depends on what you define as translating. Don't see him being an All Star or anything but seems like he will make a team very happy as a solid player. Of course he needs the right situation but you can say that about lots of guys. I can't claim to have watched a great deal of Iowa this year, but when I have he has been incredible. It's amazing how simple the game can be when you have a tremendous Big that can dominate and you surround him with a couple guys that can't hit 3s. The rest is details.

Can we please start a new thread for Iowa basketball? I'm tired of seeing "Iowa is a mid major" thread title whenever I come to CF when they are the ones who destroyed us.
Why do we even need to have a thread on them constantly.

Yeah, i never get why the rivals forum threads are all these never-disappearing megathreads.

Agreed, and keep the Iowa State is a mid major.

It has been a rough month for some on this forum.

I've been pretty stunned by Garza's improvement. Always loved how hard he played but really didn't imagine he'd be at this level.

Another thing that's different from years past is it seems like all the guys are looking to feed the post. Seems simple but we've had problems with that in the past....guys just not able to get it in there properly. Never seemed to be a priority.

I'm just curious why he disappears down the stretch. I'm not struggling and I'm not trying to start some argument with you guys
I think you over state things.....to put it mildly. I don't think it's an issue and hadn't noticed it quite frankly. I do know Rutgers started doubling down and made a concerted effort to deny him the ball down the stretch.

Agree with you. He has developed (from the little I’ve seen) more than I thought he would. He needs lighter shoes or to work on his agility and foot quickness. He moves his body and then feet instead of the correct way and that causes him defensive trouble. I remember the first time I saw him run, it was like watching a person in slo mo run on hot coals. I’m old and fat and I’m sure I could have beat him down the floor his freshman year.

The Iowa ball movement has been really good. Last night even some kick outs to Kriener were done really well.

He'll never be quick....but he's improved lateral quickness. One of the reasons he had foul trouble the last couple years was he was always a step late getting into position. He's been much better at that this year and his fouls are way down with increased minutes. It's also worth noting he's tripled his block numbers...had 4 last night.
