Iowa State Basketball is a Mid-Major Roster

The problem is when you have to play very capable teams winning on the road is very tough. I think OSU, MSU, Michigan and Maryland are top teams, but they already lost games on the road to teams like Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and will lose some more as well. They they also have to contend with themselves as well.

Kansas, WVU and Baylor likely won't lose on the road to teams not named Kansas, WVU and Baylor, as the other Big12 teams just aren't capable of beating them. Well maybe TCU or Texas Tech, but I just don't see OU, OSU, ISU, Texas, and KState beating Kansas, WVU or Baylor even at home. That is pretty nice have 9-10 sure W's all lined up for you, as at least 5 of the teams just aren't good enough to beat you more than likely. The top teams in the Big10 don't have this kind of luxury.

Think about being a Big 10 football team fan and writing this post with a straight face....

Lol.

This will be fun and easy to revisit.

It is definitely too early for me to throw down absolutes. You are right, Kansas, Baylor and WVU could certainly lose more than 1 of those 10 games. I might just make a note and keep track as it will be interesting to see actually. I don't remember the last time the middle of the Big12 has been this soft (allegedly right now, as things can change). Yet I would bet I'm not that far off on how many times the top 3 lose to the bottom 5, as the bottom 5 of the Big12 certainly have not impressed to date.
I don't think the Big 12 is as good as it has been in the past, I'll agree with you on that. But we just had 4 ranked teams last week, with TTU losing to WVU being the game that knocked them out. The 5th and 6th best teams in the Big 12 may or not be good and we'll see how their records end up, but I think the Big 12 will realistically still get 6 teams in the tournament. The Big 12 usually sends 7-8 teams.

Listen I get it, you guys struggle analyzing football as you are somewhat new to being a bowl quality team more often than not. Let me give you a clue though. When your teams don't make bowl games, and there are like 60-70 teams that make bowl games now, they simply aren't a good team. So just please understand that you trying to claim that TCU, or Texas Tech, or Kansas or WVU were some good teams, just stop, they weren't. The Big12 had 2 top 20 teams, and 4 bowl teams. The Big10 had 6 top 20 teams and 3 more bowl teams. The Big10 was better at the top and in the middle than the Big12 was this year.

I agree, the top 5 aren't bad, and I never tried to make the case otherwise. I am talking about the bottom 5 of the league seems weaker than normal.

His game completely opens up when the team as a whole is a threat from beyond the arc. He was impressive and hopefully can continue to play like he did.

If he is so good, why can't ISU win with Bolton/Halliburton/Condit? I mean in basketball if you have 3 good players, they should be able to carry you a long ways with even the more role of role players around them. Is the coaching at ISU that bad that they can't run the team through those 3 and a supporting cast around them?

Lets not get carried away. Has the Big 12 ever sent 8 teams?

The average number of NCAA berths the last 10 years for the Big 12 is just over 6 teams per season.

Bids for the Big 12 the last 10 years:

2019: 6
2018: 7
2017: 6
2016: 7
2015: 7
2014: 7
2013: 5
2012: 6
2011: 5
2010: 7

I would describe all those teams except Kansas as...what is the word I am looking for...capable. Yeah, that is it.

Probably a little bit. It might just be that some of the teams are flipped around. If ISU or KSU were 12-3 and TCU were the one that was 8-7 or 7-8, it may look normal.

Ah so it's been a little above 6 in the last 10 years and roughly 7 the last 5. Good catch.

What a game again by Garza. When he has players around him making some shot, and the D can't focus solely on him, he absolutely destroys people. 27 points scored in basically in the first 5 min. of the game and then the last 10 min. of the game, as the rest of the game he was in foul trouble.

If you put a good defender on him 1 v 1, he is gonna torch them. Michigan put Teske (who is one of the best big man defenders in the country) on Garza 1 v 1 and Garza lit him up for 44. Penn St. tried to guard Garza with Mike Watkins (another great big man defender) 1 v 1 for awhile as well. Garza torched him for 34 and forced Penn St. into a zone.

Garza is super fun to watch. The way he works and gets position down low, there is nothing these even good defenders can do to stop him once he gets the entry pass. If he receives the pass, he has already won with his positioning and it is a easy 2 pts. every time. I'm surprised teams don't just do what Nebraska did and pack it in on Garza with a double team every time and even a triple team sometimes.
