All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

I only know of one legit metric. I'm sure there are a lot more than 5 no name or ESPN type metrics that measure SOS though

If you don't agree with Sagarin's rankings, you can't agree with their SOS metric either, as their SOS metric is based on their rankings, not the AP rankings.

Iowa played 5, you are missing Penn St. Plus when was I saying Nate was better this year? I said Purdy had inflated stats playing tons of sub 50 defenses.
You must be looking at different numbers than I am because Penn State actually dropped out of the top-30 with their defensive performance against Memphis. Iowa played 5 games against teams in the top 50. Iowa State played 6 games against teams in the top-50.

I'm using a yards per play allowed, as some conferences play at a slower pace Big10 and some faster Big12. This way it isn't just total yards allowed that hurts Big12 team defenses.

Give me my SOS options then. Sagarin is the only legit one I know and you seem hell bent on discrediting it

A ballsy drive? Lol he was playing a 5-6 team with a terrible defense.. He for sure played well on that final drive but Nate Stanley did not win you that game. If he played that way against anyone with a heartbeat they would've gotten throttled with that offensive performance.
Terrible defense?

Nebraska - 66

WV - 75
OSU - 82
Texas - 108
Kansas - 122
TT - 126

LOL, can't make this up. They have a better defense than half the B12.

I'm using yards allowed per game, which should realistically hurt the Big 12. Even with that, Iowa State played 6 top-50 defenses compared to Iowa's 5.

So your argument is that Brock Purdy torched some bad defenses and my argument was that Nate Stanley played poor against bad defenses. What's your point lol?

Brock's worst performance of the year was 15-30, 185 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT against the 43rd ranked defense.

Nate's worst performance of the year was 11-24, 99 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT against the 66th ranked defense.

It's mind boggling the things they will do to try to disrespect one of the top QB's in the country. It's sad really

Question for the hawks so I understand your thoughts. I don’t care about this peeing match but trying to see what is right or wrong. Is sagarins rankings crap? How about AP? I’m wondering.

I use the college football playoff poll as the #1 poll. Unfortunately they don't do a post bowl edition, so AP top 25 is good to use. I personally think Sagarin is a joke, their rankings are terrible, nobody uses them.

There is no one absolute SOS ranking, we all know that, but one of @CyTwins two sacred cows is the Sagarin SOS, because it lends to his trolling that he wants to do. I have never seen someone who wants to cling to our schedule is tougher more desperately than @CyTwins.

Well lets be fair, you do the same thing. I don't give a hoot about numbers/rankings/pff or whatever else you looney tunes look at. Its just comical.

Yards per game isn't a good metric if you ask me. If you play a game and you each get 90 snaps, of course you are going to give up more yards per game than a game that has 70 snaps for each team. Yards per play is what tells you what a defense is allowing per every play no matter if they faced 1200 plays that year or 900.

Sagarin isn't a good rating service. They have OSU number 1 right now. That is all you need to know about it.

Nothing is a good metric to you. AP votes, SOS, etc because they don't fit your narrative. Sad

AP top 25 is good, I said it was good. SOS is fine, I just look at multiple of them because each SOS metric is only as good as it's own rankings.

You can run a ton of plays but not move the ball. You can also have an offense that scores very quickly and puts up tons of yards. That's why I use yards per game. Either way, even using your metric, both Iowa State and Iowa played 6 teams in the top 50 in yards per play.

I am talking defense. ISU played two Big12 defenses that ranked in the top 50 in YPP allowed. Baylor and TCU. Every other Big12 team defense was ranked #50 or worse in YPP allowed.
