Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Surprisingly Sean Bock appears to have switched his XF prediction to ISU. 5/6 say Iowa, and you can't see his, but the numbers work out that way.

He switched it to "cloudy". The ISU switch won't happen until the week of probably

"How many heralded classes has Fran had? I am not trying to be contrarian here, but let's be honest, none of Fran's classes have been overwhelming yet he continues to find success compared to their recruiting rankings and expectations. On paper, Iowa has no business going to 4 of the last 6 NCAA's when you look at their roster compared to their peers in the conference. I am not saying there is a Marble Jr, Olaseni, Bohannon or White in this class .... but if we're just being honest with each other here, Fran has had some home run under the radar hits to go along with his complete whiffs. He's proven to me he can at least put a competitive team on the floor more times then not and he does have at least an eye for talent that sometimes other programs don't covet. Now, this doesn't mean I am satisfied or that Iowa is knocking down the door of the Elite 8 or anything....but sometimes you have to look at things from a bigger lens. We have a coach that keeps winning despite recruiting fairly poorly (when you look at rankings anyways) since the day he got here."

I'd argue Fran has had some decent talent and has underdeveloped it.

Fran's actually had some decent teams that have fizzled out towards the end of the year, end up getting poor seeds in the NCAA tournament which causes them to play significantly better teams in the first/second round that they usually cannot compete against.

Fran, as the head coach of the Hawkeyes, has already reached his peak. His antics and poor recruiting has continued to push good recruits away and because his kids are now in college, he gets to coach them and their friends.

Honestly I've said it a lot, Fran has done really, really well with under recruited guys. He had a different 1st team all conference player 4 straight years. That's pretty tough to do. I think he's a pretty decent coach, he just doesn't get good enough talent to really elevate the program beyond what he has already.

I would also argue that those teams were fools gold and feasted on a couple of B1G down years.

He only recruited 2 of those 4

This is true, however when you mostly have under recruited players filling out your roster, some are bound to get better within the program and some are going to get enough playing time to help make things look better than they really are. If those guys were to be the 4th or 5th best players on the team, then you have a great team.

Also, because of Fran's inability to figure out rotations, which leads him to play almost every guy on the roster, the okay - good recruits usually don't get enough time to actually mold into the player they could truly be.

While that's true, you could also just have a team like McD's teams, where those okay players just aren't good enough period.

Realistically Fran gets about all he can out of the guys he gets.

he’s a ****, he’s a hothead, he’s a petty small man. That’s why kids don’t go there when they don’t grow up hawk fans.

Yeah those teams flat out stunk. Craig Brackins and Diante Garrett were fun players though.

I think Fran has probably hit his recruiting peak. Let's face it, with every year that passes a smaller percentage of Iowa kids are Hawk fans vs. ISU fans and I'm pretty sure he's done reproducing.

So basically Fran's recruits have been:
- His offspring
- Kids that are lifer Hawks that are going there no matter what
- Guys without major conference offers
- Cook and Garza

So about every 4-5 years he actually beats out another power conference school for a recruit.

The good news is that once he finishes second in the Foster recruitment he can pair that with his Tyler Ulis finalist coupon and redeem them for a free Casey's Pizza.

Except he never finished second for Ulis. Everything else is correct
