I know it's a scrimmage against a lesser opponent but this is why I believe and why I think Fran believes this team will be competitive nationally.

We didn't have guards like Evelyn last year that can attack the paint and distribute. Nunge and Pemsl will fill the Cook void.

This team will be better than last year.

That is the type of opponent you schedule as a cupcake in the non-conference. Not for a secret scrimmage. Also, assuming Fredricks went off for 40+ points?

Fran is next level here. He was forced to take a grad transfer (after running off Moss) and when Evelyn doesn't succeed he won't be asked to do it again and he gets to coach his boys due to lack other better options.

They see guys like Deandre Kane, Abdel Nader, Isaiah Moss, etc transfer from small schools to big time college basketball programs and have immediate success.

They are assuming that's how it always works. They don't know any better.
