STAFF PICKS: Cy-Hawk Game

20-10 Clones.

ISU Defense is WAY too much to handle for Iowa.

ISU Offense tires out a slim Iowa secondary and ISU pulls away late with deep balls to tight ends.

Epenesa gets a sack, but is not as big of a threat as we thought.

Iowa - 31
ISU - 13

Sadly this feels most accurate. Our team is well-built to compete with spread teams. Old school pro-style will wear us down significantly in the 2nd half. Plus I don't think our Ohio staff cares nearly as much about this rivalry. Sh*tting the bed with a GameDay audience seems like the most Cyclone thing to do.

What game have we significantly worn down in the second half?

We’re playing during Game Day? The value of Game Day is nearly all prior to kickoff. No one checks the score and thinks, “wow, the home underdog that hosted Game Day lost”.

Exactly.

The last two CyHawk matchups.
I guess we wore their defense down on the first drive then.

The 2017 game was a Big 12 shootout.

In 2018 Iowa had only 42 offensive snaps going into the fourth, just 15 of which were in the 3rd. They were stuffed on their first drive of the 4th (that began in the 3rd), as well as their third. They averaged 2 ypc in the quarter (not counting the drive to run out the clock).

Cool. Did we win??

No score, but I think we lose. Both defenses are bend don't break and dont give up huge plays. I think who can score touchdowns instead of field goals in the red zone is huge, and I think Iowa has a distinct advantage in that part of the game.

Are you confusing saying we won with saying we didn’t get worn down?

Cool, you’re just repeating lazy narratives.

Ya we have huge fast guys now on defense making all conference teams. People just get so stuck in the typical trash hok narratives I can’t stand the “nut cup” “that would be such an ISU thing” ISU fans.

17-14 Cyclones!!

And maybe not the most talked about player but I think Jamahl Johnson makes some big plays tomorrow!

In their defense, they’re likely bombarded by trash from Tavernhawks and media.

The “losing when having Game Day would be so ISU” is entertaining. It’s as though they think every team on Game Day wins. Few things are more “so ISU” than so many fans buying into the “so ISU” mantra

I keep going back and forth. I honestly think these two teams are pretty evenly matched. Purdy gives ISU an added dimension with his running, but the Cyclone offensive line didn't perform all that well in the opener, and Iowa's DL is much better than UNI's.

My gut feeling is that a turnover is going to decide things (probably a late one), and I'm not going to try to figure out who will be the unfortunate one.

It also would not surprise me if neither team scores more than 20 points.
