NFL: ***OFFICIAL WEEK ONE THREAD***

Eh, we'll see. Everyone always massively overreacts to what happens the first week. Maybe they bounce back and get the ship righted. But I'm not surprised they came out and laid an egg today. Too much hype.

No kidding. How many times have we seen Brady/ the Pats written off early in the past few seasons?

Almost everyone will be tanking for Lawrence. Might as well snatch Tua while they can. They won't have much competition for last place. Maybe Cincy or Oakland. Oakland could be looking to get a shiny new QB for their move to Vegas.
There aren't a whole lot of teams in need of a QB now, but I could see Miami tanking the next two years to get Lawrence. And with the extra draft picks they have, they could build an o-line and get some offensive weapons. Of course their defense sucks too so they will need to address several of those positions as well.

The early line on Pats @ Dolphins for next week is somehow only Pats -16. After last night I thought for sure it would be over 20 points.

It says they got Gruden's consent, but who knows? Regardless, I don't think anything is going to result of this.

Yeah, I doubt Gruden and the Raiders are going to want to give this story any more momentum. I didn't catch the video clip of the interview but off the cuff I'd think that saying something is "great" or "awesome" or whatever is not the same as saying, "Yes, you have my consent to plaster this all over social media."

Didn't I see a story about a Philadelphia 76ers player starting a fight at the Eagles game?

I saw a quick blog post but I thought it was unclear who started it. I know Sixers player Mike Scott was wearing Redskins gear and got involved in a little scuffle in the parking lot before the game.

That's some pretty serious liquid courage to pick a fight with a dude who's 6'8 and 230. On some level I admire the optimism.

Not sure that I agree with everything, but he makes some good points.
-fans may want every player to be treated the same, but there are several different rules for stars. That's even true in the corporate world. The best sales person can get away with a heck of a lot more than the worst one.
-The Raiders did know what they were getting into. And throughout the whole drama with the feet and the helmet said they supported him. The fines for missing time for that were a "we're in charge" move that almost anyone could have seen were going to be poorly received by AB
-It's interesting to hear how a lot of the "locker room cancer" stuff is an invention of the press, and that players don't really care a lot of the time. I've heard that before related to players holding out. A lot of people want to say that the player holding out is hurting his teammates, but in reality, a lot of the time teammates are cool with guys going after contracts.
-and speaking of contracts, it absolutely boils my blood when owners trot out the whole "honor your contract" nonsense when dealing with a player holding out. Teams don't honor those contracts unless it's beneficial to them. As soon as it doesn't, they try to force a restructure or cut the player. They don't honor anything.

I think it boils down to the classic management error of trying to be the "nice boss" with a new employee or staff and enabling their BS. Then when they go too far and you try to crack down they don't respect you. Gruden tried to be AB's pal, and then when that backfired on him he and Mayock tried to play good cop/bad cop and they ****** it up even worse. It's just two guys who are in over their heads in Oakland.

That’s a lot of **** thrown against the wall, but at least he got to talk about how he was tight with TO nearly 20 years ago.

Ignoring a lot of his huge leaps in logic and general fallacies...is either side even unhappy right now? The Raiders found a way out of paying a guy they had buyers remorse on, who at 31 is going to be a bad contract soon. AB got out of a franchise that offered neither success, the spotlight, or the catering he wants.
