Yeah, that’s what happens when you play in a conference full of good defenses.
So 5.4 yards per play is bad vs a team that would compete in the Big Ten West? Just want to make sure. I assumed Brian was really bad at his job but thanks for confirming

An FCS team that is rated 14 spots higher than Miami-Ohio, a MAC team. Yikes.

Wait, do you think UNI would compete in the Big Ten West? Compete for what, 6th place?
They'd be in the second tier in the West with Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue and Nebraska. Ahead of Illinois and behind Wisconsin

There's actually no argument to be made. Iowa averaged more yards per play against a worse opponent. You might have a point here if Iowa put up similar numbers against Miami, but they averaged 6.5 yards per play, which is currently 17th in the country. Not really sure what your point is.
Come on. If the rules in scholarships stayed the same, UNI gets used every week in the B1G or Big 12. Maybe compete in a game or two a year but that’s all.

Agreed. When UNI gets to plan all summer for Iowa State or Iowa, they can make the game very close from time-to-time. But, there's not a chance they're going to be able to one week play Northwestern and then turn around and even compete against a Wisconsin. Or one week play K-State and turn around and compete against a Texas or Oklahoma.Come on. If the rules in scholarships stayed the same, UNI gets used every week in the B1G or Big 12. We won’t really know how good UNI or Miami is for a few more games (or any team for that matter, outside of maybe Clemson and Alabama). At this point they appear to be roughly equivalent teams with a slight edge to UNI, but we’ll see how the season plays out.
Agree they would definitely struggle in the Big 12
According to this link, UNI has seven wins against power five conference schools. Five against Iowa State and two against Kansas State. No wins ever vs a B1G school. Again at least since 1978. Now exactly which conference have they had the most success with?

They would have the most success in the Big Ten West since it's the worst division in college football
Even though they’ve actually had success against the Big 12 and none against the B1G? That’s the way to spin that. You go Mr. CyTroll.
Very true. It's so bad it currently has the same amount of teams in the Top 25 as the B12.They would have the most success in the Big Ten West since it's the worst division in college football

I don't even know what Big Ten West teams they've faced besides Iowa
Yes. Mississippi State probably was better than Iowa was last year. Iowa was lucky to win that game.
And NW kept winning by smoke and mirrors - they were outgained by opponents by an average of 35 yards per game last season, which is more in line with a 4-8 team than a 9-5 team. I’m honestly still not sure how Northwestern won 9 games last year, but I don’t think they were that good. (For reference, Iowa outgained opponents by 80 ypg and Iowa State outgained opponents by 22 ypg). Pat Fitzgerald is a wizard.
