Oliver Martin Derangement Syndrome

Is this guy a TE? What kind of production are you expecting to him to have? Will he be able replace Hockenson or Fanta production?

My guess for Iowa’s passing attack is:

Smith and Smith-Marsette : both around 600-700 yards each
Ragaini : 500 yards
TE position (mostly Wieting) : 500 yards
Martin : 200-300 yards
Tracy : 100-200 yards
RBs : 100-200 yards

Smith and Smith-Marsette each had 361 yards receiving last year. So they're both going to double their production?

They were the 3rd and 4th options (arguably 4th and 5th if you include Easley) in Iowa’s passing attack last year. This year they’ll be options 1 and 2. Both are gifted athletes and were super raw recruits who were playing as true sophomores last year. I don’t think 600-700 yards each is an unrealistic expectation.

Glad for the kid..? I’m a fan of his. I’m curious to how tall they say he is in the Iowa depth charts / program

Ya I don’t see Iowa throwing the ball 2X as much as they did last year.
I don't think anyone does. Luckily, since some players won't be there to get the same amount of yards those yards will likely go elsewhere.

Personally, I'd bump them both down to the 400-500 yd range and move cumulative TE yardage up.

WOW! Easley is gone too?

But they really weren't. Just like past years, Iowa WR's struggled to get separation and that was with defenses shading to Fant. They weren't 4th or 5th options as much as Fant and Hock were Stanley's safety net.

This is the worst take I’ve seen on here so far. Iowa’s offense was designed to get Hockenson and Fant the ball. Hockenson and Fant didn’t rack up 90 catches and 1300 yards as a safety net because Iowa’s WRs couldn’t get open.

Well Iowa hasn't had two guys have over 600 yards since 2011 and that was with arguably the best WR in Iowa history: Mcnutt. So I'd say it's a bit unreasonable to say they're both going to produce that much. We'll see though.

I would be surprised if both guys went over 600 yards, for a whole host of reasons. Foremost health, second they haven't done it yet. Cool part about college games is people step forward every year when given the opportunity.

Yep, Nate was really good at just chucking the ball up to Fant and Hock. That had already been established.

I was watching some OSU highlights last night and it autoplayed the Iowa vs NW highlights holy crap I could hit Hockenson 75% of the time their TE design plays are so efficient that an 8th grader could complete those passes.

In 2015 Matt Vandeberg had 700 receiving yards and Tevaun Smith had 560 receiving yards. Again, I don’t think both receivers being in the 600 yard range is unreasonable at all.
