Weather Channel for Aug 31

It was even hot in Mpls for the OU gamewatch. Have it marked in my biking log because I rode that day with the gamewatch as a stop point. At my ride time it was 88 with heat index of 94 dew point of 71 and winds SW 8. Geek boy spreadsheet. Gamewatch became more of a water stop than beer stop.

It was as bad as I can ever remember in jack trice. The concourse was like a refugee camp. I never leave my seat during the game but I had to.

Nearly 50% of all days in Ames are in that range. Amateur.

I'll be in Florida this weekend, so shut your *****-icane mouth! :D

Scattered showers isn't a big deal, so long as there isn't lightning. I think the mild temperatures will keep that down. If you can't get over a little wetness tailgating, you're a weiner.

I’d happily sit in rain as long as the game gets played.

Well things could've taken a better look. Rather than the deep trough and resultant high pressure system settling directly over us, both feature are now expected to be a bit weaker and have shifted north as a result. Still wouldn't be too concerned about rain on Saturday - if it does occur, it's not a setup where you'd have repeated thunderstorms like SDST last year. Temperatures still look nice though!

The 2013 UNI game (which UNI won, ffs) was worse. Website I found said 93 and dewpoint 69 that day.

The OU game, same site says 91 and 66. Not much different, but UNI felt a lot worse to me, having been at both.

I love that 2013 season had that horrible UNI heat, and also the somehow worse below freezing temps of the Kansas game later. Iowa weather is not for the feint of heart.

But that UNI game was a night game. It was miserable. But I contend that in the stands the OU game was worse.

That Kansas game remains one of my better memories at jack trice.

I think OU seemed worse as it was a day game and just kept getting warmer as the day went on. UNI was at night so by the time we were all crammed into the stadium it was cooling off.

Recency bias as well.

The 2003 UNI game was a night game though. Yeah, it was hot as eff tailgating but inside the stadium last years OU game takes the cake. That was absolutely miserable.

This was our group at the OU game last year. Literally sweating on each other. Left at half found a shade tree and took a couple hours to get any type of energy back.

Recent reports say best chance of rain Friday night into Saturday morning. So tailgating could be crappy weather, but hope it doesn't affect the game.

Not gonna take anything seriously until Thursday/Friday

Worst case scenario it goes on a delay and we play the game a couple hours later, which is easy to do with an 11am kick.

Is the forecast getting worse for Saturday?

I saw this morning that there might be showers all day and 66 for the high.

Can you imagine if it ended up like the Drake game and we got beat? CMC would want to tear the natural grass up immediately.

Seeing how the temperature is supposed to be 30+ degrees warmer it’s going to be nothing like the Drake game. If the weather is like the Drake game then we have some serious global warming issues. From what I can tell we’ve never even hit the temperatures we had for that game. The ground also isn’t really soggy and we haven’t played a whole season on it. Stop making sky is falling scenarios up.

Our field will be fine the first game of the year for a little bit of rain. It won't even be close to the extent that was the Drake game. Our mentality will also be completely different going into this game compared to that game. It's not suppose to storm or anything along those lines, and a little rain is not going to be that much of a factor. We are also just jumping towards conclusions. It may not even rain. If it stays at 40% I'd say the showers will be minimum and it'll clear up quickly into the afternoon.

Serious question for the weather nerds. If weather can change from predictions so easily what is the purpose of making those predictions so early? What direct outcome comes from it?
