Iowa Football Recruiting

So everything there was to know about Purdy was known after his first game? Brilliant analysis. Why don't you stick to trolling Hawks.

If that's the case every player who has developed or improved in the history of college football has snuck up on every team. Brilliant

This isn’t something that matters, and it’s in reference to a stupid NCAA rule in my opinion, but that Barnes tweet has to be straddling the line of being so specific it could be looked at as tweeting about a specific recruit. I wonder what key things determine what is a violation and what isn’t.

I really don't think either of you are really wrong.. Purdy definitely snuck up on Okie State, that's obvious. WVU saw essentially an entire week's worth of game film to get ready for him, and Purdy again showed the first game was not just some fluke. Then as everyone knows, he showed up to play the rest of the year and played like he did the first time he stepped out on the field. He might have surprised teams, but that's their own faults. If they didn't want to believe in the hype and think he's not as good as advertised, they were soon mistaken.

You can be really good and still surprise someone. I thought I knew how good Kyler Murray was before we played him but it really wasn't until he played my team, that I understood how good he really was. Iowa State knew how good Kyler was, but it didn't matter, because he was better. Saying he surprised teams doesn't mean they weren't ready for him or is in anyway demeaning towards Brock. They knew who Brock was and what he could do, yet they still were surprised in truly how good he was after his performances.

While I agree with the premise of what you wrote here the context of what the original conversation was that Brock can't be labeled as great yet because he snuck up on these teams. What you are saying is different in that Kyler surprised you, but you knew he was coming and I'm sure the coaches weren't surprised by what Kyler brought to the table. With the context of how this started your comment in the Iowa @ ISU thread would have you arguing with yourself.

"It's because they are choosing not to believe it."

I guess when I was typing that "snuck up" and "surprise", I was using them like they were synonyms. Brock came out of no-where against Okie State. He absolutely did not come out of no-where against any other team. They knew he was the starter, they knew what was coming, but it didn't matter anyway.

Can't mention the recruit's name. Or @mention them by their Twitter handle.

Holy **** we landed Deontae Craig... Did not see that coming. HUGE get.

Really happy for you guys. I remember the long years as a Cyclone fan living in the shadows of Iowa's football success. You grasp for every piece of good news you can find when day after day, the other program is in the headlines. Hang in there!

I like your zeal.

You’re probably the only person that didn’t.

And “huge” would be getting another AJ Epenesa. Good get, but not “huge”, especially considering the plethora of DE’s already committed,

Edit: Now, if they actually managed to sign a really good high school wide receiver, now that would qualify as “huge”. Immense. Incredible. Unbelievable. Fair enough?

I actually came to this thread to wonder why Iowa is still recruiting tons of linebackers. I thought their switch to the 4-2-5, with the “Cash” (isn’t that what they call it?) position was permanent?
