I think either Martin and Bolton both get waivers or they both don't otherwise whatever guy who doesn't get it that fanbase deserves to be upset. The promising thing is I can't think of a time either Iowa or Iowa State didn't get a waiver they should have gotten
Iowa's been screwed before because Jess Settles didn't get his 8th year. If he would have gotten that, he would have been vested in his NCAA pension and set for life. They really screwed Iowa and Settles on that deal.
I don't think it is particularly compelling what we "think" it should be as a rule, rather what the rules are at this point and time. Changing the Coordinator is a stretch. That is all I am saying. I have not indicated my beliefs rather predicated on how the NCAA has treated this matter.
Not sure he "deserves" to play but they've given other transfers a pass for no reason recently so he'll probably get it
I'm not talking down on Iowa's program when I say this, but it's not like he is leaving abruptly to join Alabama or Clemson to win a title or anything along those lines. He's going to Iowa because he's comfortable there and has been a lifelong fan. As an athlete, you never know how long you're going to be able to play the game you love and allowing Martin the availability this year to play should happen, regardless of the reason of why he chose to leave Michigan. With all that being said, the NCAA is incredibly bad at these sorts of thing. I wouldn't be surprised if Martin is granted the waiver or denied the waiver.
Ah yes, very impressive against the #96 ranked rushing D in the country last year who gave up around 200 yards per game.
So let's change the rules to reflect that, but as it stands now this is bunk. Why have letters of intent? Why doesn't every kid enroll at several programs each year and let him figure out where he goes.
I agree with that as well. That's the other side of the argument to all of this. As much as you want kids to feel comfortable where they're at, there should probably be consequences to transferring unless there are other circumstances at play. I honestly am not sure whether or not a change in the OC is grounds for an immediate waiver to play. With Tom Manning back as the OC this year, would anyone on ISU who wanted to leave last year be able to play this upcoming year?
You may want to check Montgomery's stats and the rushing D's he put up numbers against the last 2 seasons.
