New Car "Advances" that you don't like

I don’t need it and I don’t use it. It always starts beeping whenever you get within ten feet of something and it’s annoying as hell.

I think I've become a less aware driver when backing up, but that's because it does all of the work for me. Beeping alert has definitely saved me a couple of times when I was distracted or mind was elsewhere.

The "keyless" keys. We have them in our new vehicle and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why anyone thinks they are a benefit. Like it was ever too hard put the key in the ignition and turn it.

My wife will keep hers in her purse. Someimes I will stay in the car while she runs into a store and she takes her purse and the damn thing repeatedly dings the entire time she is gone.

I have also, on more than one occasion, taken the car and forgotten the key. The key was in close enough proximity for it to start, so I figured it was in the car somewhere, only to drive a mile or so and have the thing freak out on me.

I really like them, especially with my hands full. No setting stuff on the roof/ground to reach into my pocket to unlock.

The forgotten key is weird, mine won't start if it isn't within the passenger area. If you prefer to have key and hand and insert into the ignition, it's kind of funny that you're the one forgetting it :p

I HATE dial transmission controls. I will never buy one. There is a reason push button transmissions did not survive decades ago.
I'd rather have 3 on the tree than a dial.

You should try the one in my wife’s Porsche. Very nice.

A couple of years ago I rented a car to drive down to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl.
It had that push button start feature which I hated. I didn't want to drive with the fob in my pocket so I had to stick it in the cup holder. Then when you lock the doors, if you try to verify it is locked it would automatically unlock the door because you had the fob so it assumed you wanted back in and would unlock the doors. What's stopping someone from walking over and opening your door as you walk away but are still in range?

This car also had lights that were supposed to brighten based on the light conditions. I drove down highway 13 in Missouri in the freaking dark because apparently it thought it was giving me enough light to see. The only time I could see the road was when a car with real lights passed me because I was driving so slow because I couldn't see. I actually stopped one time and got out of the car to see if the lights were actually on.

It was also a stick. I have no idea why a rental company would get a stick when most likely 90% of the population can't drive one. Fortunately I can.

I like my backup camera because sometimes it can pick up a car coming down the aisle that I may not have noticed.

I still look over my shoulder just because that’s how I was taught

I'd have to imagine at least one kid has been saved by this too. Young kids you've heard about in the past getting backed into/over since they couldn't be seen in side mirror or our back window. I can't imagine, makes me sick to my stomach to think about.

I'd venture to guess many kids saved and many accidents avoided.

Variable cylinder management. What little has been saved in fuel economy has been lost due to oil consumption, extra repairs, and extra maintenance. All the result of government meddling.

I like the backup camera. I'm not a complete old codger (just a partial)

Yours must work a lot different then any I've had, you have to have the FOB inside the car to start it on all 3 vehicles I've had it.

The stop/start tech can go to hell. When the light is green, I don't want to wait for the engine to restart. The keyless fob is the best thing since sliced bread in my opinion. Toss it in my pocket and go. At the store with a couple bags...no issue, touch and open. I hate using my wife's car now, because I always forget to grab the keys.

I don't like touch screens in cars - I want dials and buttons. You can change stations by finding the dial/button with your hand vs having to look at a screen so it's a lot safer. I know there are voice options now but my vehicles are too old for that, yet too new to have all dials and buttons.
