Iowa Football Recruiting

They had similar records but that doesn't mean they were the same at the end. Going into the bowl season the past two years, Iowa State has been ranked higher in almost every single poll. Two years ago we were ranked longer throughout the year and we played a 10-2 #25 Memphis team in a better bowl game than what Iowa played in. Last year we were ranked longer throughout the year and played in a better bowl game against a 10-2 #12 Washington State. Iowa beat Iowa State both years sure, but you can make the case that Iowa State was a more quality football team at the end of the year both years.

The above post is almost a complete 180 from what you posted less than 2 hours ago:

I'm not necessarily talking about Iowa State vs. Iowa.. it's every team. Any team can beat anyone on any given day. If Iowa beats Iowa State this year, that means they were better than Iowa State that game. If Iowa ends up having a similar overall year or better, they were a better team no doubt. I'm saying just because you lose to someone, it doesn't necessarily make them the better team.

In 2017 isu lost 3 of its last 5 games while Iowa won 3 of its last 5. Not sure you want to go with isu was better at the end.
If we were not a better team at the end of the year, why did we play in a better bowl game against a much better team?

This is funny. Now a winner is not declared in September, we have to wait until we see what the newspaper people say later on in the season.

Well maybe.

The AP poll will only count if isu is ranked and Iowa isn’t. Or check that, it will only count if isu receives more votes than Iowa in the “others receiving votes” listing. If that isn’t the case isu will be better if the isu SOS is tougher than Iowa. Next they will try and say If all those don’t show what clone fans want, they will simply come up with some other criteria retroactively.

But you are right it is funny.

Curious why ISU fans suddenly think Nebraska and Minnesota are crap teams. ISU is 18-86-2 against Nebraska and 3-22-1 against Minnesota all time. The Big Ten West is gonna be a tough mother this year with Minnesota, Nebraska, and Purdue set to move up. This is the most loaded coaching group I’ve seen in any league outside of the SEC in the Big Ten this year. I wouldn’t favor Iowa St over any West team outside of Illinois this year being dead serious. And Iowa gets two tough crossovers at Michigan and vs Penn State, while having a brutal home/away split in the West @Wisconsin, @Nebraska, @Northwestern.

I do think ISU will do well this year as there is so much transition in the B12 this year. Kansas State is gonna be a multi-year teardown and rebuild as Snyder’s recruiting fell off so bad. TCU is rebuilding its offense after last year’s disaster and essentially will be doing American Idol QB edition. Kansas is still Kansas - yet to win a conference road game in the last 10 years plus.

Continuing, Oklahoma State needs answers on defense that aren’t coming in one offseason. Baylor is fine but they’re a 7 win type of team right now in their post Briles era where they held parts of the roster up with paper mache and transfers. WVU is going through a coach/philosophy/recruiting transition. Neal Brown is good but Holgo left the roster in bad shape and with lots of players that were castoffs. Tech is in roughly the same shape but at least they were left with a good QB.

I do admire ISU’s coaching staff compared to many in the Big 12, they’re a lot less dependent on transfers and JUCO players (the summer-entering, not academically qualified ones specifically) than their brethren.

Literally Texas and Oklahoma are the only good teams standing in Iowa State’s way in conference this year - hence the accolades and preseason projections.
Dig a little deeper on the teams, pal.

You first said "If Iowa ends up having a similar overall year or better, they were a better team no doubt."

Iowa and ISU had similar years and records in 2017 and 2018 and won the head to head and then you pivot to "They had similar records but that doesn't mean they were the same at the end..... Iowa beat Iowa State both years sure, but you can make the case that Iowa State was a more quality football team at the end of the year both years."

We know a winner is declared in a September it is clone fans who continue to claim isu was better despite losing the game, not winning more games or being ranked in the final poll.

Quite funny actually.

I will side with the AP voters, you can side with your imaginary friends

So losing 3 of 5 at the end of the season makes you a better team than someone who won 3 of 5. Interesting logic.
You do realize that's a one game flip? If Iowa State beats one of the teams and Iowa loses to one of their opponents those records flip flop? So it's not like it was THAT much different. Look, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying you can make an argument for both sides. At the end of the day, Iowa State still lost to Iowa and that's all that really matters.

So you are saying the game itself between the two doesn’t count and SOS doesn’t count either but we don’t know who the better team is unless one school has more “also receiving votes” in the final AP Poll?

I predict you will tell us isu is better than Iowa well before the final AP poll next January.

I should've clarified that similar year doesn't necessarily mean similar record. We ended up with better wins and played in a better bowl game against a better team.

I do realize it. I also wasn’t the one who said isu was better because of how they were at the end of the year.

Who is saying the game doesn't count? You really know how to bog down threads

This is a pretty dumb argument tbh. Of course Iowa fans are going to think you guys did better, especially since you had a good season and didn't flop or anything. And of course Iowa State fans are going to think we did better because we also had a good year.

Imagine that, each team's fans think their season was better than the other when the records were similar? Quite shocking.
