OK. I'll admit to staying up late to watch the unedited Girls on Film video on USA network when they used to play videos at midnight. For the 2nd British Invasion (new wave synth pop), which is an essential 80s 'sound' for me, a few songs immediately come to mind:
Gary Numan "Cars" (was released in late 1979, but didn't chart here until spring, 1980)
Talk Talk "Talk Talk"
Duran Duran "Girls on Film"
Bananarama "Robert De Niro's Waiting"
Caution: this dance was not as safe as they said it was.
Most of my #1 go tos are already posted. Specifically A-Ha and Flock of Seaguls
Makes me think of Grand Theft Auto Vice City and the radio stations that would play when you stole a car.
Basically any song that exclusively features a synthesizer, 100% screams 80s to me.

Van Halen, Jump.
It's got it all - the synthesizers, the hair, DLR dressed like...um...well, DLR.

It's puzzling to my 4 year old, though. He keeps asking, "Is that a girl or a boy?" and not believing me when I say it's guys in the band.
