Five Guys Coming to Ames

McDonald's "fancy" burgers aren't that great. Not a lot of flavor. Just get the Quarter Pounder. Or the Double Quarter Pounder. You'll be happy.

I got a double QP last night and that son of a gun was good! It's improved since they moved away from the frozen meat

Add in best in class fries and the best Coke around. A serious contender

Alright. Next trip to Arizona, when my family forces me to eat at In n Out, I'll order the fries animal style. I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

Am I allowed to state that I like the Jack in the Box tacos? I know that there's nothing authentic, natural or healthy about them but they're just kinda cravable.

Jack in the Box tacos rock! So do their egg rolls

Many many evenings plowing through Jack tacos!

I don't care what they say....you have class and style!

When I was a broke Marine when I was younger, I would go get 2 JITB tacos for $1.29. I seriously ate those things daily just because they were so delicious and cheep. I mean they are not the best taco ever. Just simply good little taco's.

This board cracks me up with how cheap it is. Don't buy a new car, EVER, save all your money, don't buy a hamburger over 4 bucks, wear the same cargo shorts from when you were in Larch Hall, and don't live in the city because you get so much more for your money in a depressing suburb!
I still have my house shirt from Fulmer in Linden...does that count too?

I think they dont help themselves with the way they label things.

Their 'little' cheeseburger is a regular double anywhere else. Their 'little' fries are large fries anywhere else.

So people walk in for their first time, get a 'regular' cheeseburger, a 'regular' fries, a full shake, and then completely gorge themselves (those 3 things combined are 3-4k calories) or leave a lot of food uneaten, and then complain about the price when they got a massive amount of food.

I think that was my exact experience at Five Guys. If you're going to have a totally different ordering structure vs. all other burger restaurants you need to warn people about that. I should give it another try some day with that in mind.

That said, I'm with the Shake Shack people - much better quality (in terms of taste, don't care about fresh/frozen/Idaho sourced, etc) burgers, fries and shakes vs. Five Guys, for a lower price. I had it at the Atlanta Airport last fall, the one good experience I had in that terrible place. We need to get these in Iowa.

I might refinance my house and take the family to five guys. Or I can just go to B Bops and spend way less
You are saving $5-8 by going to B-Bops. A 1/2 burger meal with cheese ( what kind of burger place makes you pay extra for cheese?) is $8-9. A burger at 5 guys with fries is $10-11. I'll take the freshly grilled ground beef patty over a frozen meat patty for 2 dollars more any day of the week.

Per person. I have a family of 3. I spent 45 dollars on three cheeseburgers, fries, a milk shake and two sodas. That’s rediculous and b boos are just as good if not better.

Anywho, I'll probably try Five Guys just to say I did. I'll probably be disappointed but who knows. Not holding my expectations that high, and maybe it will be alright. Regardless, I already know I can make a smash-style burger better than they can.

Who the **** eats a plain hamburger? Literally everyone gets cheese on their burgers.

Lots of places charge extra for the cheese on the burger. Mcdonalds, the biggest burger chain around, charges differently for cheese or without. Also has the mcdouble, which is cheaper than a double cheeseburger, but has one less cheese slice.
