Cougar In Des Moines

This situation is probably more dangerous for the mountain lion that it is for the people or community.

random fact - The mountain loin or puma or cougar is the largest cat that can purr.

I've seen them a couple of times back home near the loess hills.

I’m so conflicted at all the code words in this thread! “Cougar” and “mountain loin”. First I’m thinking it’s a hot older woman, then a cat, then back again... although, a mountain loin might be disturbing.

Crazy, mountain lions are rare in Iowa, especially in Des Moines. I wonder how it got there. It doesn't look too big probably 70-80 pounds but it'll still kill a fully grown man.
You don't see them everyday but it's not rare to see them in southern Iowa

True, I'm just saying if the cat wanted to it could **** anybody up.

I wonder where these cats are coming from.
Like the runner in Colorado (?) a couple months ago. I could see that being a real flip of the animal instinct switch. A human running in the opposite direction would just be a big mouse to a cougar.

Police shot and killed one in Des Moines seven years ago:

If the zoo is involved, maybe they'll try to tranquilize & capture this one instead. Could be a nice promotional piece for them.

I'd bet the mountain lion population in Iowa is growing faster than the DNR would like to admit. The deer in town here are practically tame and would be a soft target for bigger predators.

Brother-in-law lost a cow in his herd to a big cat ten years ago north of Muscatine. DNR was pretty certain it was a cougar.

I've seen one in the Losses Hills as well about 15 years ago.
