Property Tax Increase

Pretty close representation to some of the roads around me lately. Like I said. Roads are about the last argument when it comes to Libertarians. I could design them and spend 1/10th the money that they spend. My car handles a little better than that old timers though.

I've never asked for any of the "services" they provide. I just need them to let me drive around and do as I need to do.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here but you really should just live in the County then. Maybe even find a County that doesn't have any rural zoning or anything. The fact is most people move to Cities because of the services and opportunities that those services provide. That is a voluntary thing. My sincere advice to you would be to stay in the County, sounds like you'd be happiest there.

Until the Cities come after the unincorporated areas because they are running out of money. But yes, most people are moving to the county here because its beautiful and we don't have to worry about zoning and regulations. There are probably 10 new homes in the county to 1 new home in the City since I've been back for the last decade or so.

You should throw into the public bid for projects in your area, I'm sure the locals would like to save that money. They'd need a strict no change order clause though, to keep it honest.

I'm going to set the over/under of number of roads built by Argent at .5, anyone brave enough to take the over?

The majority of the time an annexation occurs because the property owner wants to be in the City (voluntary!!!!). The others occur because it makes for a cleaner annexation boundary or because state law requires it due to a request creating an island.

Also, how long will the beauty of that County area last if the County development occurs at 10 times the rate of the City development. Won't all of that new fiscal commitment from the County development end up costing you more in taxes? Not sure why you're glad the County is growing over the City.

Building a road is not hard. Especially a gravel road. Heck they weren't even built they just developed where people had been walking, riding, and then driving. Eventually people learned to grade them a little and add some rock here and there.

Now could I design it to pass government regulations and the rest of the BS. Nope.

They try and try again and have to promise homeowners the world and hardly ever deliver. I'm happy about it because the County government is about 1/10 the size and pain in the arse as the City. If only the people living in the City didn't get to vote on the County government we'd really have something.

I just looked up my County's 5-year road plan, they have a project to pave 1.73 miles of road for $1.15 million this year. So your claiming that you could design and build this road for $115,000. Wow...you need to be offering up your services, I want to see this.

Add up the salary's and yes. That and the country roads are wayyy over-designed. And the rock roads use too much limestone. Yes, its cheap but degrades quickly. Mix in a 5-10% rate of river rock and they would last much longer.

Our county engineer was obsessed with "crowning" the roads and thought that would get rid of all the problems. If he'd drive them more often he would know that its not the rain that is the problem. The problems really come when the frost comes out and they soften from the bottom up. So he spent at least $750,000 last year making a heck of a mess and they are pretty much the same now as two-years ago at this time. And he left his $100k salary to hire his buds that didn't know how to run a road grader.

Damn, this is getting good. Where would you purchase river rock? How much does it cost? I think you have a budding business on your hands.

So County's that hire a County Engineer probably have a requirement that they have their PE. That means the individual in that role has a 4 year CE degree and the years of experience to become a PE. That sets the market salary rate for those positions. Your suggesting that they should just except less to work for the government? I thought we lived in a free market.

Sorry but I'm an ideas guy. I have no desire to run a boring County engineering department regardless of the salary. You could easily lay down a mix of materials that would harden to an almost concrete like product with a fraction of the cost. After a few years the costs would drop significantly.

Quarries sell it along with all other kinds. About cheapest rock you can use. Why most sewer projects used to use it.

Government is pretty much the opposite of a free market. Nobody living really has seen a free market. And yes they require a CE degree as well as a PE but not because they want to have to hire a person with those requirements. That is mandated by the State, surprise.
