Iowa offering free tickets for the MSU game

Anybody else think students should have an allotment of free tickets for every game? I think Duke and some other schools do this. With the cost of tuition combined with TV money etc I don’t really see a reason to have them paying...

I've always thought it a little silly students have to pay. Good to see Iowa getting ahead of this curve and letting them in for free anyway.

Iowa State struggles to sell out JTS, even for big games, and has to resort to “flash sales” and family packs to boost attendance figures. I see little difference between that and what Iowa has done to try and boost its basketball attendance.

We already have kids waiting for week outside to make sure that they can get in with the ticket they pay for. Imagine how long they would have to camp to get one of these "free" tickets for a game like KU.

Every athletic department in the nation offers discounted ticket deals. The difference between the two is one involves the transfer of money, whereby the other one desperately begs anyone off the street to come in.

Also, you didn't answer my question.

ISU is 3-13 against Iowa the past four years in Football, Men's Bball, Women's Bball and Wrestling.

Now he throws not only football but wrestling and Women's basketball. Just waiting for a troll to toss in women's field hockey next.

I don't really care either way. I could see why Duke would with their tuition.

That's a completely separate argument, but not a bad one. You would have issues at some schools where demand exceeds supply and students show up without a seat available. THe logistics of deciding which students get to go to games and which ones don't would be tough to mitigate. You'd have students camping out for a lot of games and missing a lot of class and others who never have an opportunity to watch a game because they aren't able to get in line early enough.

Of course that wouldn't be a problem at some schools.

Ok, 6-2 in football and Men's Bball over the last four years. I'm a big wrestling fan too, such a shame how Pollard torpedoed the ISU wrestling program that most ISU fans could care less about wrestling. Used to be a big rivalry.

That’s great but they still shouldn’t be paying IMO. They already pay too much in tuition...

And Duke does it and they have great student support

That’s basically the norm. See Nebraska’s home football sellout streak for reference

Yeah, their sellout streak which is complete BS. Same difference then. You can brag all you want about selling tickets, if no one shows up, then it's not really impressive.

It's actually more embarrassing that people pay good money for tickets and the product is bad enough that they don't even show up to use the seat they paid for.

Yeah, Pollard is a terrible wrestling coach.

No, students shouldn't get free tickets.
