Nope, Anaheim Ducks. It's nice that we are giving away cowbells on opening night. I think there is also a straw hat giveaway and best overalls contest this year.

Just waiting to see the "(Quad City) Flames Grill (Iowa) Chops" headline in the papers all season long...

What!??!! Cow bell? An Iowa "chop" comes from a pig!! BUT I gotta have more cowbell!!

I have partial season tickets, and I am eagerly counting down the days.

For those of you in the Ames area, the Chops have the training camp at the Ames / ISU Ice Rink. All practice sessions are free and open to the public. Here are the dates:

Friday, Oct. 3, 8:45am, Ames ISU Ice Arena
Saturday, Oct. 4, 10am, Ames ISU Ice Arena
Sunday, Oct. 5, 10am, Ames ISU Ice Arena

Did they finally take the big "stars" sign down off the 2nd ave side of the well? That was embarrassing.

Let me preface this with I am a HUGE hockey fan, but the barnstormer games are so much more fun than the stars were. I would love the chops to succeed, but I just do not see it happening.

I don't know if I will hit up a game, but I will definitely buy a T-Shirt with an evil looking hog on it. I am sold there.

I couldn't agree with you more. I have been to about a dozen Stars games, and I am a Barnstormers ticket holder.

The new management, coach and "attitude" of the Chops team is a marked improvement over Davey and his crew. What can I say, I have season hockey tickets for the first time and am as pumped as I was for ISU Football to start.

The games would be so much better if it were packed (i.e. Bucs games), but it never will be. They play the music so loud with 3k people in there that it echoes and kills my ears.

Look, this whole thing comes down to:

I like hockey. Then keep reading.

I don't like hockey. Go to next post.

Iowa by a miracle got an AHL team. Des Moines is in a peer group of cities with the likes of Milwaukee, Houston, Cleveland and Philadelphia.

If you are a hockey fan in central Iowa you should be supporting the Chops. I don't care what attendance is, or if you think the name is dumb. We have AHL hockey in Iowa for Christ's sake. These are guys who are a heartbeat away from the NHL.

Too bad that they couldn't get a partnership with a team inside of 1800 miles away. If they could've hooked up with the Blackhawks, the Wild or even the Blues, I think that would definitely help their cause. I'd guess the vast majority of NHL fans in the area are fans of those teams.

Just like the I-Cubs. Not sure they'd be as successful if they were afliliated with the Dodgers or somebody. I doubt I'd be a season ticket holder if it weren't Chicago's AAA team.

FWIW - I like hockey, so I'm not bagging the sport. Not a hockey fan - but I enjoy going to games. Couldn't tell you the last time I watched the NHL. Used to go to 20-30 Bucs games every season. But I haven't been to a single AHL game yet.
