I guess Iowa's collapse will start in March this year...

I didn't know Gesell was from Nebraska... this explains a lot though!

Many of Gesell's high school games were across the river in Iowa, so you could count him as a NW Iowan recruit with Woody and the others

Mysteriously he was ranked almost exactly w/ Monte Morris nationally out of high school (#95-#100), yet the 'experts' didn't realize the state of Nebraska high school basketball (talent is perennially HORRIBLE.

~ I was in a pickup bball game this past year with one of his old teammates @ Iowa. He said Gesell pussed-out with professional B-ball (making money$ overseas) --married some 20-yr old girl who became homesick and forced him to move back to the Quad Cities from Europe.

Now Gesell is selling insurance back here :(:(:(

I know no one wants to remember but ISU was 23-3 on a 10 game winning streak as the season wore down in 2001. They needed one win to clinch a share of the league title. They proceeded to lay an egg against Texas by almost 20, play poorly but win against 3-11 Tech at Hilton and then trail again at Hilton at the half but win against a 7-8 Nebraska team who was playing without Kimani Ffriend. They took the #1 seed into the Big 12 tournament and promptly lost convincingly to 8 seed Baylor (shooting 31 percent in the process) and then made 15 seed Hampton's century in the first round of the dance.

Yes; good memory. I was at the UT game and, if memory is correct, at one point we were down 30! This is the B8 Champ team down by 30! The wheels def started to fall off the bus. But most disturbing to me was what I witnessed from our Coach at a downtown Austin club after the game.

Yeah, working for Morgan Stanley sux :)

I live overseas and am enjoying the meltdown, but i do hope they win some games so he stays another decade. I can’t find the postgame or radio links. I particularly love frans wishy washy explanations when asked specific questions. Can someone please provide the links?

What are you using to watch games? I used a firestick--loaded Kodi and used the sports devil app

Pretty much got every game I wanted...

Yup, that's 3 of their last 4 with Rutgers at Carver Hok sprinkled in between.

Per Barttorvik, those are their 3 toughest remaining games (slightly beats out Michigan and Michigan St at home).

Can you imagine? The top two teams in your league, you only have to play them once and it is a home game both times! So, ISU gets Kansas and Texas Tech in Ames and then we are done with them until the conference tournament. Wow that would be a break!

Deterhawk.....I will take heat for saying this on these boards but you seem a reasonable, humble, realistic Hok fan on this thread.....the exception to the rule(typical fans) that creates the animosity even when the two teams don't play each other.

Even better, he does this despite a lot of bad takes from ISU fans sent back to him. Granted, I think the reasonable posters out there can easily tell the morons that aren't worth responding to but Dexter's posts actually add more to the discussion than a chunk of others in this thread.

To be honest, I think Fran's on-court demeanor changed with his son's cancer diagnosis. I'll bag on Fran and Iowa any chance I get, but I think that changes a lot for a person and should be recognized.
That might be true...but I also think Barta had a talk with him to tone down his antics and quit busting basketball floors with metal chairs.

I’m older and like to listen on the radio so use tune-in. That also allows me to doze off when games are in the middle of the night.

Fran is a genius.

He's a 50 yr old coach making 500k at Siena and he managed to get Iowa to make him a rich man and fund his retirement. He's locked into Iowa for at least the next 4 years where he'll coach both of his sons, and doesn't have anything to worry about contract wise - he's getting raises to max out at $3m a year and he'll be 64 when it expires.

I'd bet at the end of this season (I figure 5-7 big 10 wins) he'll be forced to fire most of his staff as a way of saving face.

You honestly think he will last four more years if they keep playing like this? I wouldnt be surprised if things get so bad that he leaves on his own and takes both his sons with him.

Or Connor quits altogether to focus on baseball and he takes Patrick with him to a lower level job like Mcdermott did.

Fran leaves on his own and leaves that money on the table? Are you nuts?
