Want to own a piece of a major college football conference?

There may be one for sale shortly.

Pac-12 Conference leadership pitched university presidents and chancellors a strategic plan aimed at bailing out the struggling conference and helping it keep pace with its Power Five Conference peers.

The “Pac-12 NewCo” plan was introduced to the conference presidents and chancellors at their mid-November meeting and was subsequently discussed in a conference call in December, per sources. Private investors would own 10 percent equity in the newly formed entity in exchange for a $500 million investment.

As much as I want the Pac12 to survive for overall stability across the country it’s apparent that it’s future doesn’t look good.

This could obviously be good for the Big 12 but it also creates change and uncertainty. Picking up a couple teams doesn’t mean everyone in the conference is happy long term.

I'm for selling an equity stake in our major conferences as long as we can still get 15 games a year from the football team and keep the players from getting paid.

Keep the cost of labor low and whatnot.

Doesn't this kind of spit in the face of "Not for profit?" Why would you want to own a stake in anything that is not supposed to make money?

Uh, yeah. If it doesn't throw off cash to the owners, then it has $0 value. That's kinda how you value a company...

Either Scott thinks he can get some OPM to distribute and save his job, or he is really, really dumb. whynotboth.gif I suppose...

I'd like to buy a steak or maybe two. At the meat counter at Fareway. make them t-bones please. Thanks.
