Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

That was definitely the implication, imagine my surprise that it's above your head.

I like how you are determining MY implication, LOL. That wasn't the case at all, anyone at home can see the exact same thing on TV. Even better than in person at times.

we just got our butt handed to us by a mid-major team with a bunch of white players who can't play D......
.......did I have the right talking points Fanatics?

Pretty much. We could add that we should stop playing this game. Playing Iowa doesn't do anything for us. If we win, we should have. If we lose, it's a huge embarrassment come March after Iowa tanks their season.

1.) I predicted the outcome correctly
2.) I predicted it would be Iowa's Super Bowl
3.) One team was an NCAA Tournament team last night, the other was not. I'll let you draw conclusions on that

I never said anything whatsoever about that making my opinion more valid, but OK.

"Was at the game and it was blatant"

So you have a better view being in the arena as opposed to those watching on tv? What does that line mean?

Iowa State’s offense the entire second half was driving to the lane with their heads down, getting away with blatant offensive fouls, and picking up garbage foul calls.
And that is any different than Cook swinging elbows on his way to the bucket on every possesion?

The game as a whole was not officiated badly and was not the reason they lost. However, there were 3 very, very poor calls that went against Iowa State at extremely inopportune times. That you can't deny.
Sure....I also thought there was couple bad calls that went against the Hawks. Particularly the call on Joe on a rebound with about 2 minutes left. Anyway, overall it was a pretty well called game and the refs kept control of a pretty chippy game for the most part. Didn't think we got the "home cooking" that seems pretty common in CBB.

As far as the "chippy" play....I think it's being overblown. No punches....no flagrant fouls. I really didn't have a problem with Prohm trying to calm things down. I will say I haven't seen him that animated before....Fran must have rubbed off :)

Going forward for the Hawks....have to take care of the ball better. Lot's of unforced turnovers...that will kill us if we don't tighten up there.

For ISU.....got to get Lard back up to speed for B12....really needed more of him last night to offset the Hawks size. Jacobson needs to be more of a defensive presence on the interior. Was surprised by that as he was basically a banger/garbage guy with Nebraska. He's definitely added to his offensive game but seems to have taken a step back on interior D....at least last night. Young needs to get healthy for B12....you'll need him.

Let me know when Moss scores 20 again and how Cook has done vs. Young.

Iowa played with their hair on fire. They get credit. ISU played their worst game of the season by far. They deserved the loss.

Funny thing ISU was awful on offense and still got to 84.

Well I'm sure clonedude and twins will agree Iowa is better. Not only do they have head to head, but they're also ranked.

That I was at the game and was just getting back to post, hadn't seen it discussed but plenty of whining about the officials from ISU fans.

Eh, it was predictable. Biggest game of the year for Iowa, playing two injured players. We're down our best player and another key player, so I'm not surprised. We have bigger goals than beating Iowa.

Lets hope Fran gets an extension out of this
This. Every part of it.

That one was really bad. Joe got bailed out on two possessions in a row before that when ISU was trying to make a run so I thought maybe that was a makeup call

My assessment of the game last night.

Iowa shot the ball very well last night namely Moss and Baer. ISU missed Young and Wigginton for sure. The game was very chippy from the beginning and I still don't know what Pemsl was doing or what the ISU players were doing trying to poke the ball away with the clock running out with only seconds left. I also don't know why Prohm never tried to hold back his own players instead of grabbing onto Iowa players.

Still not buying Iowa as a whole. They gave up 84 points last night and I still don't see a ton of improvement in that aspect. They can't expect to have Moss and Baer hit 8 out of 10 threes every game. But I also keep waiting for Bohannon to get on track so maybe that will even it out some. The season will still come down to defense.

The big 10 is stacked this year with not very many easy wins on the schedule. A .500 record should be enough to get a bid this year.

Good luck to ISU the rest of the year and I feel you guys will be a tournament team when it is all said and done.

It will be a work in progress on all fronts. I think we've all known it's very difficult to incorporate pieces of the fly like this. But so long as we keep things pretty even keel over the next month or so I think we can be very dangerous come February-March

I think you might be waiting a while for Bohannon to get on track. I can't remember ever seeing him pass up a wide open 3 like he did last night

I agree with that....use the rest of the OOC incorporate Lard/Tally and hopefully Wigginton/Young.

I think Young finds his place quickly....the one that's interesting is Wigginton...be interesting to see if he's primarily at the 1 or 2 and how the minutes shake out. If you get all the pieces back you'll be able to go small or big. Will need a bigger lineup against KU. It's going to be interesting to see how Prohm handles all the pieces.

I can tell how much this win meant to iowa fans by all the gloating that's taking place on social media. I am disappointed that after the game they can even use prohms name in the same sentence as frans when it comes to behavior.
They have that right. And as a Clone fan, this loss stings. But those Tweeterhoks should remember 2 years ago & ask themselves this : "Will the greatest accomplishment of their season be that they can claim scoreboard, or will it be much more?" I'd much rather be able to claim NCAA Tourney or Sweet 16, than scoreboard! Past history shows that the Hok team may not be able to keep up their winning, and with Rutgers actually showing improvement this year, the Hoks may struggle even with the bottom-feeder of that conference.

I think the rest of the OOC will give him that opportunity. I'm not really concerned with his shot....I think he gets that back. He needs to turn things around with his ball handling....he made some really bad entry passes to the post in the first half that resulted in at least 3 turnovers. That has to be cleaned up.

A lot of his shots are right on target and rimming out. He isn't missing by much, but yes his confidence is shook for sure.

Good game by the Hawkeyes last night, effort and energy was there from the jump and you could tell halfway through the first things were rolling right for you guys. Wish the clones could've put up a better effort, but can't say I'm surprised.

Baer and Moss shooting out of their minds from 20 and out was huge for your team to spark those runs, and we couldn't hit squat. But, thats basketball sometimes.

Congrats to the hawkeyes, they needed it and deserved it. I know our squad will get it figured out, but still some wrinkles that need ironing out. Freshman will become more composed as the season and more P5 environments pop up on the schedule. I have no doubt Prohm will make this a learning moment and hopefully it gives our team the shock it needs to realize it isn't where it needs to be yet.
