Iowa Hires a "Player Development" Director

He'll probably teach them where the safer bars to go to are located. The drunk culture in OWA city is going to be a difficult task to slow down cause you'll never stop it.

I haven't seen his actual contract, but I understand it was delivered in this sealed envelope:

He has no religious agenda, so why would there be one???

Whoa. Gotta ask you, where has there been any proof that the guy at ISU has involved religion at all in his position? I will admit maybe I am extrapolating something from your comments that isn't there. I do seem to remember the Register throwing a fit because of his background, but I have not heard any proselytizing on his part.

I think being a former minister is great experience for helping people deal with life's problems. It does not always have to involve religion. I usually really enjoy your posts, but I have to call you out on this one. If you have heard something about our life skills coordinator, then please share. I don't and can't believe that having a previous position in a religious organization should preclude anybody from holding a job at a public instution. That sort of bigotry is just plain wrong.

As for Iowa, I hope this guy works out. I hope he makes a difference in young people's lives. College age students need all the positive influences they can get, especially in Iowa City it seems.

When ISU first discussed this position didn't they call it a team chaplain? I don't think Iowa ever presented it as such.

I'm curious what his degree was in. It's not mentioned what he was doing previous to this. Personally I don't think this is a position for an ex-player to have. I don't doubt he's a good guy but it seems like a person with complete autonomy might have been a better fit. I don't know. The flip side to that is players certainly will be able to relate to him from the football aspect and respect him. Interesting choice I guess is my only point.

I have not seen anything indicating what his work background has been since he graduated. Just curious as to what he has been doing prior to landing this gig.

Maybe they hired an ex-player to teach the players how to get away with what their doing instead of getting caught????

I'm not saying.......I'm just saying......:twitcy:

I do know he was a grad assistant when he was done as a player, not sure what he was currently doing.

I do think it is a great idea to hire a former player though. One who made it through his career making the right decisions, resititing temptation, and being an overall good guy. He will have alot more credit with the players than someone who has never been through those battles...

He got his undergrad in Health and Sports Studies, Business and grad in Sports Management. He has been with the team as an Administrative Assistant the last two seasons.
