Is Fran building a regional powerhouse or just calling Iowa fans idiots and morons?

Normal EIU propaganda building up fans expectations for a new guy. A lot of hope and prays quotes.
Shouldn't matter I've seen defense will improve because this year the player try and work harder.

Wieskamp admitted that he “didn’t play much defense in high school,” in order to save himself for the offensive end.
“I don’t think people realize how athletic and long I am,” Wieskamp said.
“He can bring everything,” redshirt freshman guard Connor McCaffery said. I think he’s physically ready for this, that’s why I think he’s really going to be maybe even better than people expect from the start.”

But just think if the dozens of Iowa fans buy into the hype. That place is going to be nuts.

Well evidently a renewed emphasis on defense is the talking point in the hawk preseason. Hopefully that is all it is.

The Michigan schools are a notch above the rest though I see neither being elite. It might take some time to get it to mesh, but Beilien will have them playing well late in the year.
3-6 on that list all have question marks but are tournament/bubblish squads. Though Indiana may be a cut above with a decent amount returning coupled with a top 5ish 2019 draft pick in Romeo Langford. Nebraska has 4 really good players but then a massive drop off... will be critical they all stay healthy playing heavy minutes.
7-10: Maryland should struggle, unexpectedly losing Huerter may due Turgeron in if they miss the tourney. Holtman doesn't have a ton to work with on the roster but he's a really good coach, don't count him out. I'm actually a little higher on Minnesota than most if they can stay healthy... Like their pieces. Iowa will be all about their non-conference performance... miss on the few opportunities available and the margin for error could be razor thin.
11-12: If Tony Carr stays we're talking about Penn State in that 3-6 tier. Lamar Stevens is a stud but they're gonna rely right away on production from their freshmen CG's. Northwestern has major questions at PG.
13-14: Both teams should be really bad. Illinois' roster was a mess this spring.

I don't know what's crazier. The lack of talent on Iowa to not get a single player get a vote for all conference or Chad voted them 11th

The idea the same players who didn't worry about defense and didn't try last year are suddenly going to turn a 180 due to the coaches yelling about defense in practice is hilarious to me.
Same limited def players = same limited defense results.
Sorry I don't see Jbo getting quicker, or Cook suddenly caring after 2 years or a 195lbs frosh in Weistkamp impacting the D.

But, but, all this talent.

Iowa's 2018-2019 team photo was just released.

I think Michigan State is easily the class of the league this year. Their starting 5 is way better than anyone else's. I think the league will struggle again this year.
I would put Michigan and Purdue in the 2 or 3 spot.
For 3-5 I would put Nebraska, Indiana and Wisconsin
6 Maryland
7-10 Ohio State, Iowa and Minnesota
11-12 Northwestern and Penn State
13-14 Illinois and Rutgers.

Fair list... How many team would you predict make the tourney. 5? 6?
I haven't been closely looking at the BIG yet but from that list looks like another down year for the conference. The conference really needs OSU/Indiana with their new coaches to pay off and get back on track soon. Seeing Nebby as a possible 3 seed in their tourney isn't a good look.

Indiana should get over the hump and safely make the tourney this year imo. Ohio State I think struggles after losing the CPOY (Bates-Diop) and a 2nd team all-conference player (Jay'sean Tate) but the future is bright in Columbus with a solid class in 2018 followed by a monster class in 2019. Holtman was a really good hire.

Yeah right now after looking at it I would say 5 or 6. Like you said, they need Miller and Holtman to step up.
