How bad is rush hour (both AM and PM) between the DSM airport area and Des Moines Golf & Country club area? Which is the preferred route (I35 or I235)?

19-minutes (per current google estimate) cab-rides don't sound too bad but does it get much worse during rush hour?

Basically, I've apparently booked the wrong hotel but unless absolutely necessary I would prefer not to have to checkout and rebook elsewhere, so if you are familiar with the des moines area, would appreciate a response or three.

TIA!

I'd probably take the bypass to 35 and then to 80. That's just me.

Don’t take 235. From WDM to airport take I35 south to HWY 5 and then west to Fluer.
Thanks.

That's what google's showing.

So how long does the drive take during rush hour? If it's a really bad commute may be I will change hotels.

Do you have a reason to be out west? I assume that is why you are booking out there?

As others have mentioned, the Highway 5 bypass would seem to me to be the best route if you have to travel during rush hour (which isn't really that bad here).

Unless there's an accident slowing things down it shouldn't take more than twenty minutes, tops. And the idea of a bad commute is subjective. What we consider heavy traffic or rush hour here is a punchline in bigger cities. I about had a panic attack trying to get through San Francisco in midday traffic.

From the airport I would go south to 5 and wrap around to I-35. My advice would be avoid 235 at all costs from 715-815am and MLK from 415-515pm. That is my daily commute and it's a disaster half the time due to accidents.

For discussion. Why do you subject yourself to that? I can name several very accessible locations/neighborhoods in the metro where you can avoid that. Yes...in large metros options are limited but fortunately, we aren't tied to limited options in Des Moines.

My guess is spouse's job?

You got it; wife works close to our house so I'm stuck with this commute for now.
