MLB: ***Official 2018 Chicago Cubs Season Thread***

A lot of power and he can play a bunch of positions. He really is kind of in that spot Javy was early on, just filling in all over. If he gets it all together, and he probably will, he has a lot of value.

The whole thing makes me curious. We're really just making an outstanding team better this offseason. Are there any good FA starters available this year? I think we're in fine shape, but a top of the line guy never hurts (and maybe it's Darvish whenever he heals).

Lester
Hendricks
Quintana
Hammels (zero chance they don’t pick his option)
Montgomery
Darvish
Chatwood
Smyly

That’s 8 guys the Cubs have serious money invested in or have proven themselves as starters. That doesn’t include guys in the minors like Alec Mills who have been impressive since his call up.

There are a lot of good free agent starters available (Dallas Keuchel, Lance Lynn, C.C. Sabathia, Pat Corbin), but I just don’t think they’ll make a play for one unless they’re super cheap

no #1's on the market, which is fine. On paper next year, Darvish is the number 5 starter which is pretty good.

that assumes of course that the Cubs pick up Hamels option. If they don't I will drive to Chicago and kick Theo straight in the nuts.

the "problem" with Machado is he can't really play short, almost certainly not in the back half of the contract. If you sign him, he plays third and Bryant moves to left.

I don't think you sign Machado if he's insistent on playing short. He's league average there at best.

I think it's easier to get Harper in that lineup defensively, especially with all the Centerfield he's played and played well this year.

Zobrist 2B
Bryant 3B
Harper CF
Baez SS
Rizzo 1B
Contreras C
Schwarber LF
Heyward RF
Pitcher

Happ, Bote, Almora, Caratini + 1 more on the bench

Rotation: Lester, Hendricks, Quintana, Darvish, Hamels

That's nightmare stuff for opposing teams.

Is Bote the least talented guy on that team? That's an insane setup.

Not sure if I missed something, but is this different from the accusations of abuse that came from his exwife last year when they separated?

She didn't cooperate with the investigation last year and it was dropped. Now she blogged in detail about the abuse.
If he did lay his hands on her again when she brought their kid to see him then I can see why she decided to talk about it. Before she didn't want to ruin his career, but he just doesn't seem to get it.

From what I gathered on the local news this morning, WGN radio, it is the same as the allegations last year. She is finally doing something about it though. I was casually listening this morning, they said that the authorities wanted to go after Mr. Russell, but that his ex-wife did not want to press charges. Now she does according to the news or at least is tweating about it.

I think next year might be it. He’ll be a free agent at least. Happ can go back to playing 2B too. I really don’t care who the Cubs sign, but I want Russell gone

looks like you'll get your wish. I'd be stunned if he ever wore a Cubs uniform again.

on the field, he'd already lost his starting job. It hurts the late game defense and obviously takes away some depth
