A few tips for those going to Vegas

Why should ISU win? We haven't won a road game since 2005!!!!!

We should have beat Iowa, but they are a BAD, BAD, team with no QB. Also, we know all about getting shafted by the refs, they made a terrible call in Iowa City Saturday. Spearing??? I hope these refs aren't Big 12 refs, they are terrible.
 
Also any shows for a reasonable price that we could catch on Friday night?

Caesar's Palace is right across the street, and The Bellagio fountains are kiddy-corner to your hotel. Not to mention the gardens AT the Flamingo. Nice pool there. Head North, and you'll find Treasure Island. Free pirate fight show outside, really sweet at night.

Yeah, like the other guy said, you are staying at the heart of the strip so there's plenty there.

There used to be a same-day tickets place right under the pedestrian overpass that goes between MGM and NYNY. You could buy tickets same day for shows at half price or better. I'm pretty sure that its still there, but if not, I'm sure its just moved to a different location...ask a cabby or the concierge at your hotel.

All major casinos inter-comp shows if you're gambling and spending decent money, the Flamingo is no exception as its owned by the same company that owns the Rio and a bunch of other casinos around Vegas and worldwide. Just make sure to sign up for a club membership (free) at the casino and have them track you. The more you spend, the more they comp, regardless of if you're winning (or not, obviously).

On that note, its kinda dumb to not gamble on a club card. Even if you don't come back for a while, they'll send you free stays, free points for your next trip, etc... The Flamingo's parent company owns casinos in Mississippi, Louisiana, Illinois, New Jersey, and I'm sure I'm missing somwhere, but the point is, milk the casino for all their worth because they do the same.

Oh, and don't call direct from a hotel room phone....Vegas, not unlike other places, rips you off if you use the in-room phone.

I'm not sure if they do the pirate show anymore....they changed it to a siren show (female pirates) to spicen things up.
 
oh...forgot to mention that right next to the stadium is the Springs Preserve. Vegas became a city because it has a natural spring that runs through the valley. This preserve is the end of the spring (its all underground now except for the end of the spring) and its pretty interesting, especially if you're not from a desert. Even I learned something, beavers are actually indigenous to Las Vegas believe it or not. Anyway, if you're bringing a family, or you just want to check it out, you should as its in walking distance.

And anyone going to the colorado game stay off the mountains. you can get the same experience on a treadmill with incline and a climbing wall. And you don't have to deal with the weather. And if you are going to Florida for vacation stay off the beach, you can swim in the pools without worrying about the sand.

Can we win? yes....will we win? If we play like we did against Iowa....No.

Problems: Clock management, play calling, red zone conversions, o-line blocking, penalties, a few dropped passes, a few overthrown passes and a partridge in a pear tree.

Really? I was there over Memorial Day in 2007, and it was kind of a hybrid thing. They have the chicks singing and dancing and doing their thing (which is pretty cool anyway), and there's also the ship with explosions, fireworks etc. Either way, it's free, and pretty cool to watch. It's not a really long program, either, so you can stop by and watch it and then continue to something else.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and they were still doing this. Almost seperated into two shows though. the pirate explosion thing then into a female singing group.
 
I work in Vegas a lot. One common theme among locals is that they don't go to the strip and they don't recommend it. I think it must be the cool thing to say.

If you haven't been on the strip you have to give it a go. I think it takes at least a couple of trips to really get a feel for the strip and what you like.

Rebelx, good list. I wasn't one of the people that have said they have done it all, but go ahead and add me to the list. I've done everything you listed except watch a HS game. I'd actually add to it:

Go off-roading; either truck or ATV.

Go to the Indian side of the Grand Canyon.
 
I should add that the locals do go to the strip. None of them will admit it though. Ask them about shows or restaurants and most of them have been to shows...even though they claim to never go to the strip.
 
Personally, I go to Vegas FOR the strip...I don't want to avoid it. If you are looking for a more low key trip, then stay off the strip. Again, that's just me personally but I've gone 7 or 8 times now and will probably never stay off the strip because I like the atmosphere.

Locals go to the strip when they have out-of-town company that wants to visit the strip.
